ARCHOS introduces two new large screen Android-based tablets, the ARCHOS 7 and the ARCHOS 8 Home Tablets, These two new tablets are specifically designed to enhance the digital lifestyle in the home. The ARCHOS Home Tablet range bridges the gap between the Smartphone and the Desktop PC to provide always-on access to the web, customization through Android Apps, and multi-media content, all in a large-screen format.

These new devices propel ARCHOS’ strategy to introduce innovative electronic products with extremely competitive pricing – in this case the first large-screen Android devices at affordable prices.

The ARCHOS Home Tablets create a new range of Android tablets based on an ARM 9 processor @ 600 MHz which will run alongside ARCHOS’ existing Internet Tablets, offering functions, features and applications suited to the home. A complete new range of ARCHOS Internet Tablets, based on an ARM Cortex up to 1 GHz, will also be launched in the summer of 2010 offering a richer set of features with screen sizes from 3″ to 10″.

At home, no longer are you tied to the office; the ARCHOS 7 and ARCHOS 8 Home Tablets deliver the digital life of consuming the web, emailing, updating your favourite social sites, reading today’s e- newspaper, viewing photos, videos, music or the latest weather reports. Without the need to be tied to a small screen to enjoy your Android Apps, these two devices take the world of Android Apps to the big screen.

Multimedia showcase
With large, high resolution screens, the ARCHOS Home Tablets have been specifically developed with multimedia in mind. Home Tablets can be used as high-quality photo viewing and sharing tools. The video player software provides the best movie viewing experience and YouTube streaming in the kitchen, bedroom, living room or garden.

An on-board MP3 player, access to the free music streaming service — Deezer — and built-in speakers make the Home Tablets a very capable replacement for hi-fi or radios.

Live information and services with instant web browsing capability
Both Home Tablets are designed to keep users in touch with the world around them through instant, easy access to information services such as news, weather and local business directories. Users can configure services to appear as live widgets on the device home screen or use the web browser.

Social networking and communications
Communications for all members of the family are provided through touch screen access to email, Facebook, Twitter and other social networking sites.

Applications
With the Android operating system from Google, the ARCHOS Home Tablets can be customised with Android apps from ARCHOS’ Appslib store. Examples include Cookineo, which provides cooks with access to recipes.

The slim line ARCHOS 7 Tablet, perfect for the times when a phone is just not enough and a laptop is overkill. It sports a 7” touch screen and a slim form factor at only 12 mm thick. Weighing around 350 g (0.8Ib), it is extremely portable used in any room of the home or at the cafe.

With built-in Wi-Fi, it can be connected to a home network, while the built in USB connection makes transferring files from a PC, digital camera or other digital devices simple.

It is a low-power consumption device to give you the full benefit of 7 hours of video playback and up to 44 hours of music.

ARCHOS 8 Home Tablet
With its large 8” touch screen, the ARCHOS 8 Home Tablet is designed primarily for web browsing, web services and video content. The ARCHOS 8 Home Tablet is also perfect for displaying family pictures through the digital photo frame application.

At just 12 mm in thickness and weighing around 400 g (0.9 Ib), the ARCHOS 8 is a product that’s equally at home in the kitchen, in the living room, office or entry. Instant touch on for quick web searches, social network updates, photos, videos.
