ADTRAN Captures Top Spot in License-Free Microwave Market

TRACER Success Attributed to Penetration of the Wireless Carrier Market

HUNTSVILLE, Ala.–(April 5, 2006)–ADTRAN, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADTN), a leading supplier of license-free microwave radios today announced that the company now holds the leading worldwide market share for these products according to a report recently released by Skylight Research.

According to the “2005 Microwave Radio Point-to-Point Market Share Report, Q4 2005” ADTRAN now holds at least 28% of the worldwide market for unlicensed 5 GHz and under, up from only 17% one year ago.

The company attributes the rapid growth to its successful penetration of the wireless carrier market. Today, ADTRAN’s TRACER products are deployed by all of the Tier 1, and many Tier 2 and Tier 3 wireless service providers in the U.S., as well as several global service providers.

“ADTRAN has shown impressive growth in the license-free wireless market over the past year,” said Emmy Johnson, Principal Analyst, Sky Light Research. “ADTRAN’s jump to the leading position is a reflection of its focused efforts of capitalizing on the growth in the wireless carrier market and meeting the market’s need for license-free wireless solutionswith its TRACER family of products.”

“We have seen continuing growth in the demand for our TRACER products,” said Dan Pritchett, director of wireless products, ADTRAN Enterprise Networks Division. “TRACER, coupled with our MX Series of multiplexers and aggregation devices, and NetVanta switches, routers, and security appliances, provides wireless carriers with the industry-proven, cost-effective solutions they need to address wireless backhaul applications.”

The TRACER 6000 Series is the industry’s first modular wireless solution offering user-configurable TDM and Ethernet functionality in a single, 1U-chassis. The newly released, higher-transmit power versions of the TRACER 6420 and TRACER 6410 radios allow wireless carriers to maximize distance, while utilizing smaller, more cost-effective antennas.

TRACER coupled with other ADTRAN equipment offers advanced models of efficiency in the signaling, transport and access portions of the network. This line complements ADTRAN’s TRACER 4000 Series of fixed-port dual, quad, octal, and DS3 radios.

TRACER is also complemented by ADTRAN’s MX family of wireless access solutions. The MX platforms include, DS1/DS0 bandwidth management and wireless backhaul devices that ease the wireless carriers’ network transition from TDM and ATM to Ethernet and IP. The MX410 and 412 address wireless carriers need for efficient bandwidth utilization. They deliver full DS0 control to service locations, allowing allow carriers to drop/insert a high number of DS1s without the need for back-to-back M13 multiplexers. These products enable evolution of the radio access network to offer ATM, Ethernet and IP capabilities.

ADTRAN’s family of wireless access solutions, used in conjunction with ADTRAN Integrated Access Devices (IADs), switches, routers, firewall/security devices, and Optical Multiplexers have application across wireless carrier networks.These products permit wireless carriers to reduce capital expenditures, maximize backhaul efficiency, and expand service capacity, while successfully positioning networks for 3G and advanced data service offerings.
