Podcast: Interview with Philip Jones on the Current State of Home Entertainment

A/V Industry veteran, Philip Jones of Sound United and co-owner of ProjectorReviews.com shares his passion for hi-fi and home theater, along with some interesting surprises.

In the post-pandemic economy, we’ve seen a number of significant mergers and acquisitions in the world of consumer A/V; brand synergy is a very real concept and manufacturers are consolidating their operations to better utilize their collective resources under one umbrella. Supply chain issues and inflationary pressures have forced even the most successful and well-known brands to cut costs and work together on the R&D front.

Masimo Consumer Audio has completed its acquisition of Sound United and with so many legacy brands with a strong global presence under one umbrella — there needed to be a refocusing of its marketing and branding because consumer demand has shifted.

Philip Jones, Director of Global Brand Activation, Masimo Consumer Audio Division (formerly Sound United), brings more than 30 years of success to his role at Masimo. Jones, has worked in specialty consumer A/V retail and in product training roles at Yamaha and Sony.

He is also the owner of ProjectorReviews.com and brings a lifetime of product experience and expertise with him.

Masimo Consumer Audio now owns and manages the daily operations, marketing, R&D, and manufacturing divisions of Bowers & Wilkins, Marantz, Denon, Classe, Definitive Technology, Polk Audio, Boston Acoustics, and HEOS.

A monumental task when one considers that the various brands are based in Japan, Canada, Great Britain, and the United States.

Philip Jones and his team determine the value proposition of every product offered by 8 brands and help the marketing team with their short and long-term efforts. At night — Philip Jones, and his wife, Diane, run their ProjectorReviews.com website independently of Masimo and he’s clearly earned the self-proclaimed title of “Storyteller-in-Chief.”

Philip Jones joins, eCoustics CEO and Founder, Brian Mitchell, for an engaging and deeply informative look at the current market landscape and positioning of each consumer A/V brand in the market.

Now that was FUN! Informative? Yup! But his enthusiasm made it fun to watch and listen to. His attitude about audio is what changes a mere buyer into an enthusiast. Not a “fan” and definitely not a frAuiophile.

I also just ordered a new pair of B&W ANC headphones and have HEOS speakers throughout our home (much to the faux chagrin of mine spousal unit). I no longer try to listen “seriously” as I just CAN NOT do that any longer.

Besides, I have you guys for that.

So let it be written. So let it be FUN!

    Thank you, sire!

      ORT,

Imagine being responsible for that many products across 8 brands. Philip is an awesome guy who will do great things with those brands. He understands what they are selling.
