LG Smart TVs Just Leveled Up: Xbox Cloud Gaming Now Built In (No Console, No Excuses)

Xbox Cloud Gaming comes to LG Smart TVs in 25+ countries. Stream AAA titles and indie gems straight from your couch with just a controller and the Xbox app.

LG Xbox App Game Portal

LG Electronics has just made gaming a whole lot cooler — the Xbox app is now built right into LG Smart TVs. That means you can stream and play your favorite Xbox games, from indie gems to massive AAA blockbusters, without ever needing to buy an actual Xbox console. Available in over 25 countries, this turns your LG TV into a full-blown cloud gaming hub, no extra hardware required. Grab a controller, kick back, and game on. Just make sure your Wi-Fi is up to it and you have a fast internet connection.

Xbox App

Xbox App Games

The Xbox app is tucked neatly into LG’s Gaming Portal, making it ridiculously easy to dive into hundreds of games with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. From the worlds of Activision, Bethesda, Blizzard, Mojang, and Xbox Game Studios, there’s something for everyone — whether you’re into sprawling RPGs, fast-paced shooters, or quirky indies. Just pair a compatible Bluetooth controller like the Xbox Wireless Controller, Elite Series 2, Adaptive Controller, or even Sony’s DualSense, and you’re in. No console, no discs, no nonsense — just a smart TV and a craving to game.

The Xbox app is available on new model LG TVs and select smart monitors running the latest webOS 24 and newer versions, and it will soon be available on StanbyME screens.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate

With an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate membership ($19.99 per month), users can explore a dynamic lineup of games, from action-packed titles like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 to popular titles like Avowed, South of Midnight, or upcoming releases like Towerborne. Game Pass Ultimate members can also conveniently stream a select catalog of games they already own, such as NBA 2K25 and Hogwarts Legacy, adding even greater flexibility to their gaming experience.

Through its partnership with Xbox and the launch of the Xbox app, LG elevates gaming with the precision of game-changing OLED TVs and the brilliant and vivid action of the latest QNED TVs, including gameplay upscaled to 4K for lifelike visuals, while offering a convenient interface on LG Smart TVs to enjoy a vast library of games with cloud gaming.

Getting Started

Your LG TV has to be running webOS 24 and newer. This includes 2022 OLED TVs and select 2023 LG Smart TVs, which have the latest firmware upgrade. Here’s how to get it installed:

  1. Navigate to the LG Gaming Portal from the Gaming Q-Card or the LG Gaming Portal on the Home Page.
  2. Download and launch the Xbox app.
  3. Sign in to or create your Microsoft account.
  4. Connect a compatible Bluetooth-enabled wireless controller (such as the ones mentioned previously)
  5. Pick a game and start playing! (Game Pass Ultimate required for full experience)

The Bottom Line

This is a welcome addition to LG TVs, but Samsung has had this feature available on its TVs since 2022, so LG is arriving a little late to the party. Also, keep in mind that the LG release is currently a Beta version so the finalized version may have some slight differences.

Now this is bloody cool. So do the standard remotes actually work with your TV? I guess Bluetooth.

So everything is in the cloud, but your TV wouldn’t have the processing power of a gaming console to handle this. Somewhat confused.

Makes me want to go to BB and see how this works in reality.

I have not been a gamer since the 1990s so not my area of specialty. You can use a wide range of Bluetooth gaming controllers. My son explained that it’s sorta like using his Xbox Live account but on a TV without the actual console. I have to imagine that the TVs have the ability to handle the frame rates and will likely perform as if you were plugging the Xbox into the TV normally. I have an LG SmartTV that this should work with. Have not had the chance to even think about trying this yet, but I will.
