Two New Loudspeakers Deliver Legendary PSB Sonics In Sophisticated Styling to Complement Modern Decors
CES 2006, Las Vegas, NV, Jan. 5, 2006 — PSB Speakers, long renowned for affordable excellence, continues to add more styles and options for today’s growing residential A/V market. The PSB VisionSound Series combines a new acoustical design with novel technology and dramatic contemporary styling into two new loudspeaker models that will be officially unveiled during CES 2006 in Las Vegas today.
The highly versatile VS300 can be placed on the wall, used as a center channel (feet included) or even as a mini tower with optional desktop base. The VS400 is a floor standing unit that is tall and elegant, a visually appealing complement to the most sophisticated televisions and contemporary furniture. Both PSB VisionSound Series models are the perfect match in style and performance for today’s flat panel LCD and Plasma TVs.
“In spite of their fashionable style the PSB VisionSound Series speakers achieve PSB’s signature sonic performance without compromise,” says David Smith, PSB’s Director of Product Development. “For instance, we have incorporated the first crossover network with corrective equalization to compensate for the effects of the rear wall bounce, common to all on-wall speaker designs. PSB will never let style or trends give way to function (or performance).”
A unique crossover circuit flattens the frequency response when mounted on the wall. This is necessary because wall mounting a speaker causes a rear wall bounce, and a subsequent sonic delay of the reflected sound. This creates a broad acoustic depression centered around the 400 to 500Hz range. This bounce is predictable using computer modeling, making it possible to develop an exclusive crossover network with corrective circuitry that precisely fills in the depression and accurately equalizes the system back to flat. When the speaker is table mounted, a switch on the rear panel defeats this circuit.
The wall mounting brackets included with the VS300 are designed for maximum versatility and minimum mounting height with a 5 to 6 “depth to match most wall mounted LCD and Plasma TVs. The VS300’s wall mounting bracket turns over a broad range of angles so that it can be aimed inward for best stereo effect. The same bracket, with the addition of two feet, becomes a center channel for placing atop a TV or in front of a table mounted set. An optional speaker base turns the system into a compact tabletop mini tower.
The VS400 uses four 4.5″ woofers that provide impressive bass extension with a 1″ Neodymium magnet tweeter. The VS 400 is a sonic performer on par with the best floorstanding PSB speakers. Designed primarily for on-wall mounting next to 42″ and larger flat panel displays the VS300 contains two 4.5″ woofers and a 1″ Neodymium dome tweeter. Its vented enclosure is approximately 24″ long.
All units are enclosed in rigid aluminum extrusions, which are acoustically inert and beautifully durable. All use a high excursion 4.5″ diameter, wide suspension woofers and vented system design to get maximum bass from minimum dimensions. Special care was taken with the 1″ aluminum dome tweeters to optimize their high performance by the carefully contoured waveguide, which blends seamlessly into the obstruction-free face of the system’s cabinet. Both models are available in black and titanium finish.
All the PSB VisionSound Series models was seen in PSB’s hospitality suite at the the Hard Rock Hotel during CES 2006. The VS300 is currently shipping and the VS400 will ship in first quarter 2006 with the following MSRP:
