Wirefly Survey Shows 68% of Consumers Find Holiday Online Promotions Effective
Wirefly, an online leader in one-stop comparison shopping for cell phones and wireless service plans, today announced its holiday online shopping survey results and top cell phone picks for this holiday shopping season. The list includes traditional best-sellers such as the popular Motorola RAZR phones as well as an array of new devices that feature megapixel digital cameras, video and MP3 music capabilities.
“This year’s holiday season is going to be strong, driven largely by consumer demand for converged technology such as camera and MP3 music phones. More and more, people want to use one device for multiple wireless applications,” said Wirefly’s President Brian Westrick.
In a survey* completed yesterday, Wirefly found that online holiday discounts and promotions make consumers 68% more likely to purchase the goods and services being advertised. With nearly half of survey respondents saying that they shop at least a couple of times a month online, the 2006 holiday shopping season should set a record for the busiest online shopping season in years.
The same survey revealed that Cyber Monday promises to be one of the busiest online shopping days of 2006. One in ten respondents said that they have shopped on the Monday following the Thanksgiving holiday because of online seasonal promotions. Cyber Monday has become known as the Web’s shopping equivalent to “Black Friday” when retailers launch major sales and discounts to drive traffic. Industry analyst comScore Networks, a leader in measuring the digital age, predicts $599 million in online Cyber Monday sales, a 24% increase from last year.

*About the Survey
The U.S. based online survey was conducted from November 7 to November 26, 2006 from a pool of individuals who purchased new wireless phones and new service plans. The sample of 1,135 respondents was 55% female and 45% male. 40% of respondents were between the ages of 31-44, 32% were 45 and above, 16% were between the ages of 25-30, and 12% were 18-24. The margin of error was 2 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
