Ultimate Ears just released UE MEGABOOM, the biggest and most rugged portable wireless speaker in the “BOOM” series, which include the UE BOOM (regular) and UE BOOM mini (smallest). Although MEGABOOM is the largest, it is still lightweight, portable, and easy to grab with one hand. More importantly, being bigger means it offers better sound. Plus it is waterproof enough to be submersed in up to 3-feet of water, but it floats so sinking to that depth shouldn’t even be an issue. Although it won’t play submersed, you can rest assured it won’t break.
The most unique feature of MEGABOOM is the free companion app that unlocks some pretty cool features. For starters, the app allows two MEGABOOMS to be configured as left and right channels, or even more MEGABOOMS can be linked together and controlled independently. Other extras include remote On/Off, alarm functionality and fully customizable equalization sound settings. But more importantly, and for the first time ever, updates can be made to the speakers over the air. That means as Ultimate Ears develops better algorithms for sound quality or extra features, the speakers become infinitely upgradeable without any user interaction. Amazingly, the speakers could get better over time!
