Theory Audio Design, led by Paul Hales, always manages to be the talk of the CEDIA EXPO, and 2025 will be no different. This year, the brand is debuting its new PLC Series of amplified loudspeaker controllers, adding to a reputation built on innovation and one of the best soundbar systems money can buy—still unmatched by anything we’ve heard under $20K.

Offering two 8-channel and two 4-channel models, Theory Audio Design has expanded on the success of its 2022 and 2024 DLC Loudspeaker Controllers, this time with solutions tailored for larger home theater installations.

Each PLC model integrates Powersoft’s proven Class-D amplification topologies, SmartRail energy-management power supplies, Power Factor Correction, and advanced DSP architecture—delivering Theory’s reference-grade performance into residential, professional, large venue, and live sound environments.

Core Features of the Theory Audio Design PLC Series Loudspeaker Controllers

  • Proprietary Theory Loudspeaker Presets – optimized performance with plug-and-play integration
  • Native Dante & AES67 Audio over IP Networking – seamless compatibility with modern digital audio systems
  • All-Channel Power Sharing – efficient distribution of power across every channel
  • Three Configurable 1Gb Network Ports with 1x PoE – flexible connectivity with built-in Power over Ethernet
  • Easy-Swap USB Key Amplifier Restore – quick backup and restore for system reliability
  • Maritime Compliance – certified for use in marine environments, including luxury yachts

From Paul Hales, Theory Audio CEO and Technology Guru: “Theory’s DLC series of loudspeaker controllers are very popular in the residential segment. However, integrators, specifiers, consultants, and end users have been asking us to bring Theory’s high-fidelity and high-output sound to their larger and more complex projects,…..With our recently introduced SR Series loudspeakers and manifold subwoofers, paired with the new PLC loudspeaker controllers, we are going after that segment head-on with a small catalogue of immensely capable, innovative, and flexible products. If you’re a fan of the small-format Theory products, wait until you hear what Theory can do for your large-format projects.”

Where Powersoft Technology Enhances the Theory Audio Design PLC Series

Powersoft’s amplifier technology is recognized for its industry-leading reliability, energy efficiency, and sonic transparency, achieved through ultra-low noise converters, linear phase FIR filters, and Active Damping Control. By combining high-performance Powersoft amplification with advanced DSP processing and PoE (Power over Ethernet), the PLC Series delivers precise control and uncompromising sound reproduction.

Available in compact 1RU 4-channel and 8-channel models, the PLC controllers are engineered to be scalable, reliable, and powerful. With the addition of Theory’s proprietary loudspeaker presets, the PLC Series ensures clean, high-fidelity sound for large-format installations, professional venues, and even portable applications.

Theory Audio Design PLC Loudspeaker Controller Models

  • PLC-4K8 – 8 channels x 500 watts per channel
  • PLC-8K8 – 8 channels x 1,000 watts per channel
  • PLC-9K4 – 4 channels x 2,250 watts per channel
  • PLC-16K4 – 4 channels x 4,000 watts per channel

From Marc Bertrand, Theory Audio Designed CSO: “Partnering with Powersoft to create Theory’s PLC loudspeaker controller platform was a no-brainer,…Feedback directly from the field is that for large, complex installations, Powersoft’s patented amplification and processing technology delivers the best sounding, most powerful, and reliable solution, especially for those deploying elaborate Dante or AES67 systems.”

Further Comments from Luca Lastrucci, CEO of Powersoft: “We are proud to embark on this close partnership with Theory, which places Powersoft’s patented amplification and DSP technologies at the heart of the new PLC line,…Their decision to align with us validates our commitment to being the reference technology partner for power, efficiency and pristine audio in large-venue, live-sound and complex networked applications. Together, we will set a new benchmark for performance and reliability.”

The Bottom Line

At this time, detailed specifications, pricing, and full images of the Theory Audio Design PLC Series Loudspeaker Controllers have not been released. However, based on the DLC series, the PLC models are expected to feature similar connectivity and performance. All will be revealed during or after CEDIA 2025, held September 4–6 at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver—though, as always, the true measure will be in how they sound.
