Emmy-winning designer Thom Filicia contracted to oversee one of two NYC showcase apartments
Savant Systems LLC, having led the convergence of an open architecture platform to integrate automation and control, A/V switching, and general purpose computers, has announced that the company will be opening a two-apartment 7500 square foot showcase design center in New York City’s affluent SoHo district. The two fully automated spaces–one with a commercial focus and the other residential–will enable Savant’s authorized dealers to show prospective clients how the company’s ROSIE control and entertainment systems integrate seamlessly into a real-world home setting. The showroom will also enable Savant to host AIA events (American Institute of Architects) and other architectural and design-focused events, providing the company with an elegant and up-to-date showcase within the heart of Manhattan.
Savant has assembled a world-class team to execute this project including one of House Beautiful’s “Top 100 American Designers” and a recipient of House and Garden’s coveted international “Taste Maker” designation, Thom Filicia. Filicia is the host of Dress My Nest on the Style Network and was once a member of the wildly successful Fab Five on QueerEye for the Straight Guy. Thom has also made television appearances on Oprah, The View and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Filicia was also one of Barbara Walter’s top 10 most fascinating people in 2003, and his company Thom Filicia Inc. has been featured in countless magazines.
Savant’s Director of Marketing Craig Spinner stated that the residential portion of the design center is slated to open in October of this year with a festive launch party to follow. The commercial space is expected to debut in Q1, 2010. “Of course we are excited about the limitless potential of having a showcase in lower Manhattan,” explained Spinner. “Having a gifted designer like Thom Filicia sign on to the project only heightens our expectations for the blend of elegance and functionality we envision for the design center. Savant has a continued commitment to expand the market in support of our dealer base–this fantastic resource in New York City is an example of that dedication,” Spinner added.
Savant’s residential showcase will feature a fully automated master bedroom and bathroom, music/piano area and media room. There will also be a roughly 800 sq. ft. dedicated home theater crafted by world renowned theater designer and industry legend Theo Kalomirakis and a fully functional kitchen by Dahlia Kitchen Design.
“Each design project that I undertake is a thoughtful reflection of the client as well as the space we are working with,” explained Thom Filicia. “Savant’s ROSIE technology is beautiful–their SoHo showcase will blend styles, textures and colors to accommodate and enhance these great products within an environment that truly feels like home.”
Savant is pleased to have the following premium brands as manufacturer partners for the SoHo NYC Design Center:
