Named CES Innovations 2010 Design and Engineering Awards Honoree in Integrated Home Systems
Remote Technologies Incorporated (RTI), a leading manufacturer of professional-grade, integrator-friendly control solutions, today announced that it has been named an International CES Innovations 2010 Design and Engineering Awards Honoree for its ST-7 universal controller in the “Integrated Home Systems” product category. Products entered in this prestigious program are judged by a preeminent panel of independent industrial designers, engineers, and members of the media to honor outstanding design and engineering in cutting-edge consumer electronics products across 36 categories.
The smart-looking ST-7 features a piano black gloss finish with simple, elegant lines, complemented by a unique, low-profile assortment of hard buttons. The controller’s bright 7-inch widescreen LCD display with an integrated multitouch capacitive touchscreen brilliantly delivers custom buttons, text, and graphics. The integrated 802.11 WiFi and Web browser allows the user to access IP-addressable devices and Web pages. For simplified navigation, the ST-7 offers an integrated trackball with customizable backlight coloring to indicate different functions.
The ST-7 fortifies its sophisticated design with amazing control capabilities. Utilizing 2.4-GHz ZigBee RF technology, the controller provides the convenience of wireless two-way communication. This allows users to monitor and control a wide variety of electronic systems in the home, including thermostats, lighting control, security, A/V distribution systems, and media servers.
“We painstakingly designed the ST-7 to combine the sleek, modern industrial look that consumers crave, with the advanced control features, ease-of-use, and flexibility that they need,” said Pete Baker, vice president of sales and marketing for RTI. “Receiving this recognition from the prestigious CES Innovations Design and Engineering Awards is a gratifying validation of our efforts, and we are quite proud of the achievement.”
The esteemed Innovations Design and Engineering Awards have been recognizing achievements in product design and engineering since 1976. The program is sponsored by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) — the producer of the International CES, the world’s largest consumer technology tradeshow — and endorsed by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA), the voice of industrial design, committed to advancing the profession through education, information, community, and advocacy.
RTI’s ST-7 will be displayed at the 2010 International CES, which runs Jan. 7-10 in Las Vegas. The Innovations Design and Engineering Showcase will feature honorees by product category in the Grand Lobby of the Las Vegas Convention Center and will also be featured at CES Unveiled: The Official Press Event of the International CES on Tues., Jan. 5.
Since it was first showcased, RTI’s ST-7 has received positive feedback in anticipation of its official release in Q1 2010. In Gary Kayye’s recent rAVe “Best of CEDIA 2009” Awards, the product was chosen as “Best New Control System Product.”
