Roth Audio introduced the SOF-a Bluetooth-enabled sound system, complete with a built-in microphone for hands-free use of mobile phones. The new product debuts under a new sub-brand called Roth.2.

The SOF-a sits neatly in your home wirelessly delivering content from paired Bluetooth-enabled mobile phones. But should you receive a call, the music slowly fades and your ringtone will be heard. You can then answer the phone in the usual manner, or instead simply hit the SOF-a’s hands-free button, and carry out a conversation via the built-in microphone (which also features noise reduction technology) — especially great news if you’re busy, say, cooking or typing on a keyboard.

On the subject of keyboards, the SOF-a is compatible with any other Bluetooth-enabled device, so it can easily wirelessly connect to the likes of desktop computers, laptops, and tablets. It’s also compatible with Apple iPads, and of course Bluetooth-equipped MP3 players. Featuring a compact chassis, the curvaceous SOF-a still packs the tech, and its digital signal processing technology incorporates an echo and noise removal feature. It also handles Bluetooth Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) and features a 3.5mm input – for devices that output audio, but don’t offer Bluetooth – and a USB output for charging compatible mobile phones.

Roth AV founder James Roth commented, “When designing SOF-a we realized that rival products appear to underestimate the buying public – just because a hands-free speaker doesn’t cost three figures, doesn’t mean it must sound like a wasp trapped in a paper bag. The SOF-a won’t replace your £1000 hi-fi, but for the money it’s a seriously useful addition to your home’s tech armoury.”
