Motorola i870 Handset Features 1.3 Mega Pixel Camera and Transflash™ Memory Slot

KIRKLAND, Wash. & PLANTATION, Fla. – Nextel Partners, Inc. (Nasdaq:NXTP) and Motorola, Inc. (NYSE:MOT) today announced availability of the first wireless handset with MP3 playing capabilities and Nextel digital walkie-talkie, the Motorola i870. The i870 also features a digital camera, Bluetooth capabilities, GPS(1) and Nextel Direct Talk(SM), the off-network digital walkie-talkie service that works anywhere between compatible phones within a range of up to six miles.

Operating on the Nextel National Network, the new i870 phone features a 1.3 mega pixel digital camera and a camcorder that record both video and still images that can be shared with other users via Nextel’s Multimedia Messaging service (MMS). MP3 files, video and still images can be saved to the handset’s Transflash removable memory card. The MP3 audio player is compatible with stereo headsets and features dedicated player buttons on the exterior of the clamshell-style handheld.

“The Motorola i870 is a complete multimedia package, combining the most efficient wireless communications technology available with entertainment features that are in high demand,” said Nextel Partners’ vice president and chief operating officer Jim Ryder. “We expect both mobile professionals and wireless trendsetters alike to be attracted to this stylish device, packed with tools for both work and play.”

The Motorola i870 features Nextel’s Group Walkie-Talkie for fast and efficient walkie-talkie conversations with up to 21 participants and Nextel Direct Talk, the two-way radio feature that keeps users connected when one or all are out of a coverage area. The advanced handset also features Bluetooth technology for hands-free wireless communication with compatible accessories, and is GPS(1) enabled, giving users access to a wide variety of location-based services and applications. The phone features a 176 x 220 internal color display and a 96 x 65 external color display for crisp, high-resolution visibility.

“The i870 represents the ultimate combination of entertainment and wireless services in a single handset,” said Rey More, senior vice president and general manager, Motorola’s iDEN Mobile Devices. “It eliminates the need to lug around a bunch of different devices — a phone, MP3 player and digital camera. The i870 delivers all of these features in one compact handset.”

The i870 is available through all Nextel Partners’ distribution channels, including its 110 company-owned stores, at a price of $299.99 with a two-year service agreement, new activation and credit approval. Taxes, fees, early termination fee and other charges apply.
