LG Designs Genesis Microchips Cortez and Hudson Video Display Controllers into New High-End Plasma Televisions

42-inch Plasma Models Feature Faroudja DCDi Cinema Branding on Faceplates to Denote Inclusion of Premium Video Processing

Genesis Microchip Inc. (Nasdaq:GNSS), a world leader in the development of image processing technologies for flat-panel monitors, TVs and other consumer display products, today announced that LG, one of the world’s leading consumer electronics companies, has designed Genesis Microchip’s highly integrated FLI8532 (Cortez) and FLI8125 (Hudson) flat-panel television controllers into its new 42-inch Plasma televisions. Available worldwide this month, LG Plasma models 42PX5M, 42PM1M, 42PX4RV, 42PX3RV and 42PX1RV feature the Faroudja DCDi Cinema™ brand on their faceplates to enable consumers to identify which Plasma TVs carry Genesis Microchip’s latest suite of advanced video processing technologies.

“We are very pleased that LG, one of the world’s leading consumer electronics companies known for its innovation and quality, is offering consumers these new plasma televisions based on what we believe are the industry’s most advanced and highly integrated television controllers, the FLI8532 and FLI8125,” said Raphael Mehrbians, Genesis Microchip’s senior vice president of Product Marketing. “This selection once again reflects our ability to lead the integration curve and to offer award-winning video quality for the mass markets.”

The FLI8532 and FLI8125 were designed to provide a high-quality dual channel solution for Picture-in-Picture applications. The FLI8532 is a highly integrated, single-chip television solution for flat-panel televisions. It features Faroudja’s Emmy award-winning advanced video decoding, directional correlational deinterlacing (DCDi) and video enhancement technologies, whose inclusion is represented by the Faroudja DCDi Cinema™ brand. An integrated multi-standard 3-D video decoder provides support for NTSC, PAL and SECAM standards and the integrated VBI (Vertical Blanking Interval) processor supports Teletext, Closed Captioning, V-chip and other VBI services. The FLI8532 also features proprietary technologies to improve the performance of Liquid Crystal Displays for television applications including LCD Overdrive technology to reduce motion smearing artifacts and an Active Color Management™ system to improve the dynamic color range. An embedded microcontroller and versatile On-Screen-Display (OSD) facilitate rapid product design of a global television chassis.

The FLI8125 is a cost-effective, highly integrated, mixed-signal controller for TV and digital video applications and supports HD formats including 720p and 1080i. It incorporates a suite of technologies known under the Faroudja DCDi Edge™ brand, including Faroudja’s proprietary memory-less DCDi to eliminate jagged edges in video, TrueLife™ video enhancement and Active Color Management™ technologies. The controller also features a multi-standard 2-D video decoder capable of accepting NTSC, PAL or SECAM and all sub-formats. The high-speed Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) accepts both analog RGB and YPrPb inputs. An integrated VBI Slicer supports Closed Captioning (CC) and Teletext applications, and the built-in microprocessor enables full system control without external devices.
