IKEA officially cut ties with Sonos and is now going full DIY on smart home gear. They’re rolling out over 20 new smart products all built around Matter, the universal smart home standard that finally means your devices might actually play nice together. No more brand lock-in nonsense.
After years of figuring out what smart home stuff people actually want, IKEA’s dropping the gimmicks and focusing on products that fit real life. Their mantra: open, simple, and affordable tech for the many — because not everyone wants to hire a tech guru just to turn on a light.
Matter is the magic glue that lets gadgets from any brand communicate without drama. IKEA’s smart hub, DIRIGERA, just got upgraded to a full Matter Controller and Bridge. That means it can boss around other brands’ devices and make older IKEA smart gear compatible with the new ecosystem. Basically, IKEA’s finally tossing out the walled garden and playing nice with everyone.

Sound-wise, IKEA’s done hiding speakers like they’re guilty of a crime. The NATTBAD Bluetooth speaker launched in June 2025, rocking a retro radio vibe and colors like yellow, pink, and black — because your smart speaker should look as fun as it sounds. Just this week, they announced BLOMPRAKT, a practical table speaker with solid sound and adjustable mood lighting that aims to set the right ambiance — literally, thanks to its angled top.
These aren’t your typical headache-inducing gadgets. They’re designed for zero fuss: easy multi-speaker setup, Spotify Tap to launch music with a single tap, and an out-of-the-box experience even your least tech-savvy friend can handle.
To top it off, IKEA’s partnered with Swedish designer Tekla Severin, aka “Teklan,” to inject some real personality into their electronics. The goal? Turn boring home gadgets into style statements that blend with your space instead of ruining it.
So yeah, IKEA’s done waiting in Sonos’ shadow. They’re betting on building a smart home lineup that’s affordable, accessible, and distinctly Swedish — with a side of cheeky charm. Your smart home just got a lot more interesting.
IKEA BLOMPRAKT Speaker Lamp: Affordable Sound Meets Stylish Ambient Lighting

The IKEA BLOMPRAKT is a powered Bluetooth speaker that moonlights as a tabletop lamp — because naturally, IKEA couldn’t resist combining furniture and tech in one minimalist package. Designed for your desk, nightstand, or anywhere you want a little light with your late-night doomscrolling soundtrack, the BLOMPRAKT keeps things dead simple.
No apps, no voice assistants, no drama. It runs on Bluetooth 5.3, which means you can link it with other compatible Bluetooth speakers for a basic multi-room setup. Don’t expect Sonos-level wizardry — this is more “simple and functional” than “smart and expensive,” just the way IKEA likes it.
The one trick up its sleeve is the Spotify Tap button. Press it once and the BLOMPRAKT immediately resumes your last Spotify playlist. No app diving, no premium subscription required — it just works, whether you’re listening to ABBA or ambient rain sounds to drown out your neighbor’s dog.

IKEA says the BLOMPRAKT “combines great sound with atmospheric lighting,” which basically means it plays music and glows — and honestly, that’s enough. Available in beige, black, and blue, it’s priced to move and designed to blend in. Not a revolution in audio, but a solid vibe upgrade for people who’d rather not overthink their tech.
IKEA NATTBAD Bluetooth Speaker Brings Retro Design and Affordable Sound
Introduced last month, the NATTBAD is IKEA’s other new powered Bluetooth speaker — and at just $50, it’s aimed squarely at anyone who wants fun, functional sound without wrecking their budget. The design leans hard into retro radio vibes, with rounded edges and a playful aesthetic that blends easily into bedrooms, dorms, or anywhere neon nail polish and fairy lights already live.
Functionally, it’s a carbon copy of the BLOMPRAKT: Bluetooth 5.3, support for grouping with other NATTBAD speakers, and a dedicated Spotify Tap button that instantly resumes your last playlist. Simple, reliable, no app drama.

The real story here is the color palette — yellow, pink, and black — a clear signal that this one’s targeted at women, teens, and kids’ spaces. It’s fun, friendly, and designed to feel like a lifestyle accessory, not a piece of gear. If you’re looking for audiophile performance or masculine-industrial speaker aesthetics, move along. This one’s about personality, not purity.
Still, at fifty bucks, it’s hard to argue with the value — especially if you’re building a budget-friendly multi-room setup with a little flair.
The Bottom Line
The breakup was inevitable. Sonos brought the high-performance audio chops, but IKEA’s always been about accessibility, simplicity, and cost — three things the SYMFONISK line couldn’t fully deliver on. By parting ways, IKEA gets to chart its own course with Matter-powered products, Bluetooth speakers that don’t require an app to function, and price tags that fit the meatball crowd, not the audiophile elite. The decision to lean into their own DIRIGERA smart home platform and cut the complexity makes sense for a brand that lives and dies by affordability and mass appeal.
That said, the SYMFONISK line isn’t gone just yet — you’ll still find it on shelves and online, likely until inventory runs dry. But make no mistake: IKEA’s future is cheaper, simpler, and fully DIY — no Sonos required.
Price & Availability
IKEA says the new speaker range is all about affordability and simplicity — and the pricing mostly backs that up.
The BLOMPRAKT is the pricier of the two, expected to land around $120 when it launches in October 2025. IKEA hasn’t confirmed the final price yet, but don’t expect it to stray too far from that ballpark.
The NATTBAD, on the other hand, is available now and ready to ship directly from IKEA for just $50. It’s the more playful, budget-friendly option — and clearly designed to appeal to the many, not the few.

My understanding is that their Sonos collaboration speakers were actually not bad. These look like someone who failed design school was given the opportunity to make a pair of awful looking speakers.
