Fyne Audio Previews Special Production Vintage Classic Gold SP Speaker and More: High End Munich 2024

Fyne Audio turns back the clock on new vintage loudspeakers, while debuting a SuperTrax tweeter that extends beyond human hearing.

Fyne Audio Classic Gold X Loudspeaker Front Lifestyle

High End Munich for 2024 has wrapped up, but there is still a lot of news to report on.

Scotland-based Fyne Audio, provided a preview of its “Special Production” Vintage Classic Gold SP loudspeaker and also announced its new SuperTrax tweeter.

Vintage Classic Gold SP

The Vintage Classic Gold SP Series is a genre-defining design from Dr. Paul Mills’s ambition to build the finest-sounding loudspeaker in a cabinet style from the Hi-Fi heyday of his formative years. The result is an immaculately finished, retro-styled loudspeaker with cutting-edge audio performance. It is Dr. Mill’s Signature design, distilling his heart, musical soul, and decades of expertise into a loudspeaker Series that carries his signature on every cabinet.

The Vintage Classic Gold SP is designed to bridge the gap between the retro styling of the Vintage Classic Series loudspeakers and the High-End engineering and design concepts from the Vintage Series. Retaining the Classic rectangular cabinet shape, the Special Production Gold SP brings high-density birch ply cabinet construction, IsoFlare drivers with improved neodymium tweeter, and further revisions to the BassTrax 360-degree porting system for more refined and articulate bass.

The Gold SP Series will launch in Autumn 2024 in 8, 10, and 15-inch versions with IsoFlare drivers. Performance is further enhanced through upgraded electronics. These will include fully Deep Cryogenically Treated (DCT) crossovers, upgraded internal wiring, and gold-plated ETI terminals, delivering state-of-the-art sound engineering in a design that pays tribute to the golden age of Hi-Fi.

More details to come…

Tip: Fyne Audio’s Classic Speakers look a lot like Tannoy’s Super Gold Monitor (SGM), Stirling III LZ Special Edition, and Autograph 12 speakers, and that is no accident. Dr. Paul Mills is a former Tannoy Speaker designer and is now the technical director for Fyne Audio.

SuperTrax Super Tweeter

Although the “Special Production” Vintage Classic Gold SP loudspeaker preview was exciting, the big story from Fyne Audio was the official global launch of the SuperTrax super tweeter along with the high-end SuperTrax SC1 cable.

Fyne Audio Vintage SuperTrax Front and Rear

The SuperTrax incorporates the most advanced speaker technology from Fyne Audio so far. It incorporates a unique Thin-Ply Carbon Diaphragm (TPCD) super-HF driver and tractrix profile diffuser.

Eliminating the break-up modes of metal dome tweeters, the TPCD driver technology with dome structure unique to Fyne Audio pushes the boundaries of material science in acoustic transducers, enabling extended and highly linear upper-frequency response with extremely low distortion.

The SuperTrax is engineered to eliminate the problem of a narrow-focused directional beam with 360-degree dispersion. This adds to a wider soundstage and a more immersive listening experience.

The 360-degree dispersion cone with tractrix profile borrows from Fyne’s expertise in its BassTrax technology which is the 360-degree LF speaker porting system included in premium Fyne loudspeakers.

SuperTrax extends the frequency range of your loudspeakers several octaves above human hearing limitations. This extension provides increased tonal accuracy, a more pronounced transient response, and a greater sense of air and space.

The Vintage SuperTrax is crafted to echo the real wood veneers, metalwork, and sumptuous grain of retro-styled loudspeakers.

SuperTrax has been developed with Fyne’s Vintage and Vintage Classic Series in mind. In addition, the piano gloss black version with aluminum metalwork has been designed to cosmetically partner with Fyne’s F700 and F700SP Series IsoFlare-based loudspeakers. However, you can connect the SuperTrax to any third-party branded loudspeaker with a flat top section.

SuperTrax Specifications

  • Drive Unit: 25mm (1”) Thin Ply Carbon Diaphragm (TPCD) with a neodymium magnet system
  • Recommended Amplifier Power: 400 Watts RMS Max
  • Sensitivity (2.83 Volt @ 1m): Suitable for loudspeakers up to 98dB typically
  • Nominal Impedance: 8 Ohms
  • Frequency Response (-6dB typical in the room): 16kHz -60kHz
  • Crossover Type: 3rd order high pass 16kHz, Cryogenically treated

From Dr. Paul Mills: “We understand how subwoofers extend the low-frequency response and improve the whole sound stage; extending high frequencies also has several benefits, such as bringing realism, air, and life to the music across all frequencies. Combining our IsoFlare driver with the new Fyne Audio SuperTrax delivers a 360-degree immersive stereo listening experience audio like no other.”

Fyne Audio Vintage SuperTrax Front and Rear Black

Finishes: Models are available now in both traditional walnut veneers with gold anodized metalwork to complement the Vintage and Vintage Classic Series, as well as a contemporary gloss black and satin silver version to match Fyne’s F700 Series and popular black-finish loudspeakers from other manufacturers.

SuperTrax SC1 Cable

The SC1 is a connection cable designed and engineered by Dr Paul Mills to provide the best performance from SuperTrax when connected to the main speaker.  High-purity OFC copper ribbon conductors are used to reduce magnetic eddy currents, improving ultra-HF performance and transient behavior.

SuperTrax SC1 Cable

Optimized spacing using LPDE dielectric delivers low capacitance and improved vibration damping. The SC1 also incorporates a ground wire to reduce potential RFI in the signal. The cable is Deep Cryogenically Treated (DCT) in Fyne’s in-house DCT facility. This process is used for Fyne’s UK-made crossovers. This process reduces internal stresses and refines the crystal boundaries of the copper and solder joints, further improving performance. The cable is protected with a braided nylon sheath and supplied with high-quality, gold-plated Spade and Banana terminals.

Pricing & Availability

Manufactured, tested, and hand-finished in Fyne’s Glasgow, UK factory, the SuperTrax Tweeter, and SC1 cable are available now through authorized dealers.
