FOTONATION WINS DIMA INNOVATIVE DIGITAL PRODUCT AWARD FOR ULTRA-WIDEBAND IN-CAMERA MODULE
FotoNation, Slyde, and Wisair Demonstrate Embedded Wireless USB Camera at PMA
ORLANDO, FL — March 9, 2006 — FotoNation Inc. (www.fotonation.com), one of the world’s leading imaging and connectivity solutions companies for the digital photography industry, announced today that it has won the DIMA Innovative Digital Product Award for their Ultra-Wideband (UWB) In-Camera Module.
The UWB module, the first wireless USB solution embedded into a camera, was co-developed by FotoNation, Wisair, a leading provider of UWB and Certified Wireless USB (WUSB) chipset solutions, and Slyde Technologies, a wireless conversion solution provider for the digital photography and video markets. FotoNation will be demonstrating the product for the first time at the PMA Conference in Orlando, FL. Through this innovative technology, digital stills and video images can be wirelessly transferred between cameras and PCs.
The solution combines Wisair’s Ultra-Wideband chipset, Slyde’s DropIntegration architecture, and FotoNation’s PTP technology, to deliver a small form-fit, in-camera module that communicates over the air with a wireless USB dongle connected to a PC. The in-camera module requires minimal changes to current camera architectures for ease of integration by the manufacturer. The embedded wireless USB camera provides data transfer rates of up to 480 Mbps, high quality of service, and a much lower power consumption than current wireless solutions.
Eran Steinberg, FotoNation’s CEO, commented, “Digital and video camera users have become particularly savvy over the past decade and want faster and faster transfer rates from their cameras to their computers. Moreover, they want transfers to take place in real time and without the need for cables. As Wisair has demonstrated that it is a forerunner in the UWB space, we are excited about our collaboration. We look forward to working with Slyde and Wisair to take our efforts beyond the demonstration stage and into the mainstream market.”
Guy Sella, CEO, Slyde elaborated, “One of the issues today with most consumer electronic devices such as digital cameras, video camcorders, displays, computers and cellular phones is their limited ability to exchange and share data in a seamless, easy, and intuitive way for end users. Wireless USB is one method which together with other man-machine interfaces will take the usability and data sharing experience to new levels.”
Amir Freund, VP Marketing at Wisair noted, “There is no doubt that Wireless USB characteristics of high data rates, low cost, and above all–low power consumption–perfectly fit the requirements of the digital still camera (DSC) market for wireless connectivity. The collaboration with Slyde and FotoNation clearly demonstrates how end users will soon be leveraging our Certified Wireless USB technology in a broad range of portable devices, including digital and video cameras.”
The Wireless USB camera demonstration will take place at the FotoNation Technology Suite X9 at PMA and will also be shown in Wisar’s booth at the Spring Intel Developer’s Forum held March 7-9 in San Francisco.
