Corel Announces InterVideo WinDVD BD/HD-DVD Playback/Navigation Support for NVIDIA GeForce 8 Series GPUs

OTTAWA — May 24, 2007– Corel Corporation (NASDAQ:CREL;TSX:CRE), a leading developer of graphics, productivity and digital media software, today announced a retail version of InterVideo WinDVD 8 Platinum that leverages the NVIDIA PureVideo HD technology and GeForce 8 Series graphics processing units (GPUs) to deliver superb Blu-ray and HD DVD playback on desktop and notebook PCs. By combining WinDVD 8 with an NVIDIA GPU, consumers and OEMs have a proven solution for quickly and cost-effectively enhancing their PCs with amazing, theater-like high-definition playback.

Offering all of the benefits of the high-definition experience without the complexity, WinDVD is the world’s most popular video playback and navigation software. In addition to providing crystal-clear playback of interactive content on BD and HD DVD discs and drives, the universal player also supports DVD/video/audio in a wide range of formats, eliminating media compatibility issues.

“NVIDIA’s GeForce 8 and GeForce 8M Series desktop and notebook GPUs are currently the leaders in high-performance graphics and Corel’s WinDVD is the leader in high-definition video playback”, said Rob Enderle, Principal Analyst for the Enderle Group. “With High Definition programming and content development increasing dramatically, it only made sense for the two companies to partner and create the definitive solution for those wanting to enjoy high-quality video on their personal computers.”

WinDVD leverages the power of NVIDIA PureVideo HD hardware acceleration capabilities to deliver highly efficient hardware decoding for playback of H.264, VC-1 and MPEG-2 movies. Graphics cards and notebooks based on the latest GeForce 8600, GeForce 8500, and GeForce 8M Series GPUS offload the complex H.264 decoding process from the CPU. This frees the CPU to perform other tasks and reduces power consumption and extends battery life. And with WinDVD 8’s support for NVIDIA’s new second generation video processing technology, manufacturers can deliver a smooth frame-rate and superior image quality on even the most demanding titles.

To deliver superior quality and performance, the WinDVD H.264 codec technology utilizes highly advanced algorithms. One of the codec’s key benefits is the ability to divide the decoding tasks among several hardware cores and hardware threads on both the CPU and the GPU. WinDVD’s H.264 codec partitions the decoding tasks into multiple threads to maximize all the processing power of the latest dual-core and hyper-threading technologies, as well as the NVIDIA GPU’s hardware acceleration.

“The synergy of our expertise in video and audio technology and NVIDIA’s industry leading digital media processing technology has once again proven to be the ideal solution for OEMs and consumers who want improved performance for demanding applications such as BD/HD playback and backward compatibility with DVD video,” said Blaine Mathieu, Vice President and General Manager, Products and Strategy, Digital Media at Corel.

“Playing HD movies on a PC can be challenging for users to configure and ever more difficult for PCs to play,” said Scott Vouri, NVIDIA General Manager of Multimedia. “The combination of Intervideo WinDVD and NVIDIA GeForce GPUs with PureVideo HD technology makes implementing a HD ready PC a snap, enabling anyone to enjoy HD movies on their PC with superb HD home theater quality even on modestly powered PCs.”
