CheckPoint HR Adds Key Elements to Phosphate Producer’s HR Equation

U.S. Operations of Phosphate Giant Innophos, Inc. Leverages CheckPoint HR for Payroll, Benefits and Self-Service Across Five Locations Serving 480 Employees

Edison, NJ (February 19, 2008) — CheckPoint HR, LLC, an innovator and leading Administrative Service Organization (ASO) that offers small- to mid-size organizations an integrated Human Resource Management System (HRMS) for human resources, payroll services payroll services and benefits administration, today announced that Innophos, Inc., the world’s leading producer of chemical grade phosphates, is gaining payroll, productivity and cost efficiencies using its on-demand HR platform. Since August 2004, Innophos has optimized CheckPoint HR’s Web-Based Human Resource Management System (HRMS) to automate payroll and create a portal for employee self-service. CheckPoint HR’s 24/7 on-demand, Web-based platform automates all aspects of the HR lifecycle, ranging from recruiting, background checks, and benefits administration to employee self-service and training.

Innophos, Inc., created through the 2004 acquisition of the North American specialty phosphates business of Rhodia by Bain Capital, develops solutions to enhance the quality and performance of numerous end products in many specialized and industrial areas. These include a wide variety of applications, such as water, paper and metal treatments, horticulture, electronics, textiles, food, pharmaceuticals and detergents. The company’s U.S. operations include 480 employees located in its Cranbury, NJ headquarters and manufacturing plants in Nashville, TN; Chicago Heights, IL; Chicago, IL; and Geismar, LA.

With the fast pace of the acquisition, Wilma Harris, vice president, Human Resources for Innophos, Inc., was quickly challenged to research, purchase and implement an HR solution to meet its next payroll — all within a few weeks. The key for Harris and her team of five in-house and three field HR execs was the transfer of employee data from Rhodia’s Ultimate Software UltiPro engine into a platform covering all HR processes including benefits and payroll. After some online research, Innophos selected Ultimate Software partner CheckPoint HR and its web-based Human Resource Management System (HRMS) portal HRMS. Within three weeks, the first payroll was successfully completed.

“With zero transition time, our implementation of CheckPoint HR in three weeks was nothing short of miraculous. To this day, colleagues have a difficult time believing that the entire payroll evaluation, deployment and implementation process was only three weeks,” said Harris. “With our time constraints, we needed a company that would view a mid-size small cap company like Innophos as an important piece of their business. CheckPoint HR’s razor sharp focus on serving the midmarket clinched our decision versus engaging a larger vendor that would throw us by the wayside — especially under an edict to make payroll happen quickly.”

According to Innophos, Inc. HRIS payroll manager Eric Mayhand, from a technology standpoint, the transition was seamless since the CheckPoint HR solution is built on the UltiPro platform and he could easily mirror all processes from his system at Rhodia. Since that initial payroll, Mayhand is also using the CheckPoint HR portal to streamline the online enrollment process. “We have reduced the need for paper forms and instituted a ‘greener’ paperless office policy with almost 100% of our employees on direct deposit receiving their pay stubs electronically,” he said. This capability not only reduces paper but eliminates errors. For example, each Tuesday after 2:00pm, Innophos employees can view their paycheck online and report any errors to the HR department in advance of payday each Friday. Mayhand has also been impressed with CheckPoint HR’s automated reporting functionality. “For a worker’s compensation issue, we recently utilized CheckPoint HR partner Business, Legal Reports (BLR),” he added.

Innophos is also benefiting from CheckPoint HR’s employee self-service capabilities. “In the past, employees would have to call our department for every tidbit of HR information,” said Judith Delannoy, employee relations manager, Innophos, Inc. “Now, regardless of location, all employees log into the CheckPoint HR portal and receive instant answers to their questions. This time savings frees up our department to focus on other HR initiatives.”

With global HR responsibility for the company, Harris hopes to work with CheckPoint HR to roll out the system to other locations in North America. Mayhand also wants to further explore and utilize the manager self service capabilities. “We view CheckPoint HR as an extension of our HR operations,” said Harris.
