Bluebird Music, a distributor of high-performance audio products since 2000, is announcing the North American availability of the Canton Townus Passive and Active Speakers.
It feels like it has been many years since Canton’s products have been available in Canada and the United States and we’re happy to see their loudspeakers getting the exposure that they deserve.
To kick things off, Bluebird Music is showing the Canton Townus series at Axpona (Audio Expo North America) from April 14th-16th which is being held just outside of Chicago.
The Canton Townus series is designed to provide great performance while carrying affordable price points. There are two Townus series categories: Traditional Passive and Smart Active.
Cabinet Design
Canton’s Townus passive and active loudspeakers both feature enclosures with fine surfaces, harmonious proportions, rounded cabinet edges, and screwless integration of the drivers into a slim baffle.
Surfaces come in silk matt or high-gloss lacquers as well as fine real wood veneers.
The cabinets are built and reinforced with internal bracing. They feature strategically placed damping material inside the cabinets, selected high-quality crossover components, and high-quality internal cabling. The downward firing bass reflex port contributes to the speakers’ accurate, tight, deep bass and makes the speakers less demanding of in-room placement. The rounded cabinet edges also improve sound dispersion.
Drivers
Townus midrange and bass drive units are made from Canton’s proprietary titanium diaphragms, low distortion double cone design, and patented Dispersion Control and Wave Bending technology.
These elements combine to not deflect at low frequencies and remain well-controlled by even modestly powered amplifiers.
Townus loudspeakers preserve dynamic contrasts even at high sound levels not typical of speakers at their price points.
The 25mm dome tweeters feature lightweight ceramic domes of aluminum ceramic oxide. A waveguide is included that optimizes the tweeter so that it can reproduce frequencies up to 40 kHz.

Tip: Canton’s AR5 Dolby Atmos speaker can be used with both the previously released Vento and Townus home theater speaker setups.

Standard finishes are high-gloss black lacquer or a silk-matt white. A natural walnut real wood veneer finish is also available for a small upcharge.

Smart Townus Wireless Active Loudspeakers
In addition to the core cabinet and speaker drivers, the Smart Townus speakers also contain built-in amplifiers that provide 350 watts of power to each speaker.
This eliminates the need for external power amplifiers and speaker cables, but you still need to connect them to an AC power outlet.
Tip: Smart Townus speakers use wireless inter-speaker signal transmission with 24-bit signal processing. This means you don’t need to make a wired connection between a speaker pair.
Smart Townus speakers are extremely easy to set up and can connect automatically. They also have internal wireless network capability that allows connecting other Canton Smart Series models.
Smart Townus speakers provide the following input options:
- Analog RCA and XLR
- 3 digital (coax, optical, and USB).
- Bluetooth
Since you don’t need an additional amplifier or stereo/AV receiver to use them, just place the speakers in a desired location, plug each speaker into the wall power outlet, and connect your sources to the Master speaker.
