Avocent to Lead Discussion at NI on the Benefits of Centralized Management for Heterogeneous Data Centers

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., May 1, 2006 — Avocent Corporation (NASDAQ: AVCT), a leader in IT infrastructure manageability solutions, today announced C.C. Fridlin, P.E., director of product management, will present at the Networld + Interop (N+I) conference and trade show in Las Vegas, held May 2-4 at the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Conference Center. Fridlin will address how centralized management solutions provide more complete control of data centers housing multi-vendor equipment. His presentation “The Strategic Data Center: Centralizing for Success” is scheduled from 2:15-3 p.m. PST on Wed., May 3.

At N+I, Avocent also will demonstrate industry leading centralized solutions for managing servers, serial console managers, power devices and environmental monitoring equipment. Demonstrations will take place in booth #2132 (Avocent) and #865 (Cyclades: An Avocent Company).

Avocent’s unique integration of hardware, software and embedded technologies provides a single interface to quickly and efficiently manage IT infrastructure and solve system problems anytime, anywhere, no matter the location or health of servers or network devices. Avocent IP-based solutions eliminate distance limitations and provide 24/7 access and control of data centers. IT administrators can sit at a single console and have secure, local and remote control of multiple servers, serial devices, IPMI proxy appliances and power management systems.

DSView 3 management software also provides access and control of third-party tools, allowing IT staff to use their favorite day-to-day in-band tools, such as Microsoft Terminal Services, with automated failover to out-of-band solutions. Failures and failovers are documented in the software’s event log for easy reporting for adherence to corporate security policies and government security regulations. Other security features of DSView 3 software include selectable encryption modes, including AES, the highest standard adopted by the U.S. government, and RSA SecurID two-factor authentication.

Last month, Avocent announced the integration of the Cyclades ACS console management appliances and KVM/net and KVM/netPlus KVM over IP switches into the Avocent DSView 3 software solution — furthering the company’s industry leading solutions for data center management.
