ADTRAN Expands NetVanta Series to Address Larger Networking Applications

New Multi-T1 Router and Additional OS Features Broaden NetVanta’s Capabilities for Small and Medium Business Applications

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., (August 16, 2004) — ADTRAN, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADTN), a leading provider of network access equipment, today announced the NetVanta 4000 Series of access routers, additional WAN interface modules, and the latest version of the ADTRAN Operating System (OS) v7.1. These additions make NetVanta routing solutions even more attractive as a cost-effective alternative for small and medium-size networks.

The NetVanta 4305, the first member of the NetVanta 4000 series, is housed in a modular, compact 1U chassis that can accommodate up to a maximum total bandwidth capacity of eight T1s. The NetVanta 4305 has two 10/100Base-T Ethernet LAN ports for LAN segmentation or DMZ applications. Users can also add VPN capability, allowing the device to provide up to 1,000 IPSec tunnels using DES, 3DES or AES encryption. The NetVanta 4305 also incorporates Multilink PPP, which provides the ability to aggregate T1s for high bandwidth applications. This capability also makes this platform attractive for carrier applications such as multi-T1 data services.

“As the need for cost-effective small and medium business applications continues to grow, so does the requirement for additional bandwidth to support higher-speed applications,” said Tim Saunders, vice president of product management, ADTRAN Enterprise Networks Division. “The NetVanta 4000 Series meets this need, by allowing customers to add bandwidth as their requirements grow, without adding costly hardware. This not only saves money up-front, but also enables a faster ROI and extends the life of the product, providing a much lower total cost of ownership.”

In addition to the announcement of the NetVanta 4305, NetVanta routers now service the needs of a wider range of customers through feature enhancements in the newest release of the ADTRAN Operating System (OS), v7.1. New features available in v7.1 include Multilink PPP, which enables the aggregation of multiple T1s for higher-speed applications; NAT compatible SIP Application Layer Gateway (ALG) for support of VoIP applications; and IP Multicast. In addition to these features, NetVanta 3000 customers will also benefit from the addition of a user-friendly Graphical User Interface (GUI). This intuitive configuration interface allows remote device configuration with step-by-step wizards, the ability to upload or download configurations, and the ability to upload firmware as ADTRAN OS revisions become available. These features are included in the ADTRAN OS v7.1 Standard Feature Pack, which is currently shipping on all NetVanta products.

Customers wishing to add VPN capability to their NetVanta router may purchase the ADTRAN OS v7.1 Enhanced Feature Pack at an added charge. New features in the ADTRAN OS v7.1 Enhanced Feature Pack include Dead Peer Detection, DiffServ Marking Preservation within an IPSec Tunnel, and NAT Traversal V2 that aids in the passage of IPSec traffic through a NAT-enabled device.

ADTRAN is also adding three new modules to the NetVanta suite of internetworking products. The modules — a Dual T1 Module (NetVanta 1000, 3000,and 4000 Series), Octal T1 Module (NetVanta 4000 and 5000 Series), and HSSI Module (NetVanta 5000 Series) will increase capacity and add flexibility to a variety of NetVanta products.

The Dual T1 Module will increase the bandwidth capacity of the NetVanta 3200 and 3205 routers and 1224R and 1224STR Switch/Routers to two T1s. Users of the NetVanta 3305 can use this module to increase their bandwidth capacity up to three T1s. The Octal T1 Module (NetVanta 4000 and 5000 Series) offers high-bandwidth users flexibility in network designs. The HSSI module allows the NetVanta 5305 to connect with external WAN termination equipment such as a T3 CSU/DSU or inverse multiplexer. The Octal T1 and HSSI Modules are currently shipping. The Dual T1 Module will begin shipping the end of August.

The NetVanta 4305 chassis has a U.S. list price of $2,495 (Standard Feature Pack) and $3,490 (Enhanced Feature Pack), while the Octal T1 Module lists for $1,495. A product bundle that combines the NetVanta 4305 with an Octal T1 Module has a list price of $3,990. The Dual T1 Module has a list price of $645, while the HSSI Module has a list price of $1,295. ADTRAN OS v7.1 upgrades are free of charge for existing NetVanta customers and are available on the ADTRAN Website at www.adtran.com.
