Apple’s TV App Just Became A lot Easier to Use

All of the major video streaming platforms have begun a consolidation of their content on redesigned apps. Apple TV is the latest to get a refresh in 2023.

Apple TV App Home Screen 2023

Apple has just released a revamp of the Apple TV app within tvOS ver 17.2 that is now available for all users (and prospective users).

Tech Note: tvOS 17.2 also includes support for 3D movies for the Apple Vision Pro

The redesigned Apple TV app is intended to make it easier for users to access and manage content that includes original series and films, live sports, movies, and television shows across compatible Apple devices, smart TVs, streaming sticks, gaming consoles, and more.

From Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Services: “The redesigned Apple TV app makes it easier than ever for users to watch the shows, movies, and sports they love through an intuitive interface that brings content to the forefront…With so much available to watch, our aim is to ensure users always have their favorites at their fingertips.

New Features

The Sidebar: A sidebar has been added to the left side of the screen as a jumping-off point to provide easy access to Apple TV+ and shortcuts to channels and apps viewers already have, such as Disney+, Paramount+, Max, and many more.

For living room devices, the sidebar also includes profiles, allowing households to quickly switch between users for better personalisation in “Up Next” and content recommendations across the app.

Home: The redesigned navigation introduces Home, a unified guide for all the shows, movies, and sports.

Channels and Apps Section: Within Home, the Channels & Apps section allows users to browse each of their subscribed channels or connected apps in depth. Collections — including New Shows and movies, Top Charts, Trending, and For You — are designed to provide the best recommendations for viewers to enjoy what’s new, popular, and tailored just for them.

Apple TV App Profiles

Profiles: Profiles allow households to quickly switch between users on living room devices.

Store: The updated Store tab in the Apple TV app unifies movies and TV shows into one offering. This enables users to access everything available to buy or rent more easily.

Channels and Apps: A new Add Channels & Apps Shelf enables users to explore popular streaming services and add the ones they want.
