The Audioengine B2 is a $299 table-top wireless speaker that plays music via Bluetooth from your smartphone, tablet or computer. To cut to the chase, this little speaker does not disappoint. Right out of the box, you will instantly notice its weight relative to its size. Build quality and finish were also impressive. The front cover magnetically snaps firmly into place, but I think it looks better with it removed. There are four speaker drivers, and nothing about this speaker looks like they cut corners.
Pairing the speaker to your device is usually a challenge, but surprisingly the B2 went into pairing mode upon being plugged in for the first time. My iPhone 6 located the speaker within seconds, then I was paired and listening. Subsequent device pairing requires you to hold down the Bluetooth button on the back for about 5 seconds to initiate pairing mode.
Listening to the Audioengine B2 was an instant treat. The speaker played loud, but controlled, without booming the bass. I would characterize the B2’s sound signature very similar to a high-end studio monitor. The speaker revealed plenty of musical details, while keeping the bass tight with decent depth. At the current moment I have yet to hear another similarly sized Bluetooth speaker that sounds better for the price.
The B2 is Audioengine’s first table-top Bluetooth speaker, and a very good one. You can get more product information and specifications from our B2 introduction article. The bottom line is the Audioengine B2 is highly recommended.
