User-Friendly Cable System Control Boasts Unique Line-up of High-Impact Features with Exceptional Subscriber Appeal, Including Exclusive
ON-DEMAND Button, Programmable Macros, Backlighting,
‘Power ALL’ Control and Learning Capability

CEDIA EXPO, DENVER, CO, Sept. 14, 2006– Universal Remote Control, Inc. (URC), a world leader in the custom design, engineering, manufacturing and distribution of high-quality remote controls and wireless technology solutions for the Subscription Broadcast, Consumer Retail, Custom Professional and OEM markets, exhibits its CLIKR™ 5 remote at the Custom Electronic Design and Installation Association (CEDIA) Expo 2006, beginning here today.

CLIKR 5 is the culmination of URC’s strategic initiative to leverage its 20-year legacy of developing control solutions for some of the world’s most prestigious A/V equipment. The result is an innovative, high-caliber remote for the subscription broadcast market – priced for today’s stringent operating budgets – that combines functionality, contemporary styling, and a unique line-up of features.

Bill Baker, Vice President, National Accounts, explained how the CLIKR 5 evolved: “Over the past year, our company has conducted a good deal of research asking both cable operators and subscribers what features they would like to see in a DVR remote. Most cable operators wanted a large ON-DEMAND key, programmable macros, and the addition of a remote that was head-to-head learning capable for their triple-play customers.”

“The subscribers request was almost unanimous,” continued Mr. Baker. “The vast majority said they wanted a remote they could see in the dark – backlighting! CLIKR 5 is our solution to these expressed needs. It’s the remote subscribers will want, and the remote cable operators have been waiting for.”

CLIKR 5 has been carefully designed to please the most demanding subscribers and, at the same time, help cable systems sell their line-ups of new and special services, generate new revenue streams, and gain a decided strategic edge on the competition. Most notable are a dedicated ON-DEMAND button, exclusive for a standard subscription broadcast remote, plus programmable macros that enable cable operators to promote their pay-per-view channels or other premium services much more effectively. In addition, both the ON-DEMAND button and macros can be factory-set to satisfy the specific needs of individual cable systems.

CLIKR 5 is engineered to control up to five components, and operate all digital Motorola, Scientific-Atlanta, Pioneer and Pace Set-Top Boxes – including HD and DVR. It also features one-button ‘Power ALL’ control for total system ON/OFF, and full-keypad backlighting – two high-demand functions typically found only in higher-end home theater remotes.

To further satisfy both subscribers and cable systems, CLIKR 5 also comes pre-programmed with the most comprehensive code library of any remote in the industry. This, combined with its ability to be upgraded, and an optional learning capability, virtually eliminates the issue of CLIKR 5’s future obsolescence due to the constant, ongoing proliferation of new A/V components and brands in the marketplace.

As a means to speed and facilitate CLIKR 5’s seamless adoption by cable systems and their respective customer-support infrastructures, CD-based interactive training and reference tutorials are also available for CSRs, Technicians and Installers, as well as for posting on cable system intranet sites.

Further reaffirming URC’s commitment to unparalleled customer service and satisfaction are industry-leading quality control processes that guarantee superior performance, user-friendly Instruction Manuals, toll-free 800-number tech support, on-site training, and customized multicolor cable system logos.

Aesthetically, CLIKR 5 offers exceptionally strong consumer appeal due to its unique design, appearance and case colors – Lux Blue and High-Tech Gray. It is available now, and can be seen with URC’s other outstanding products in Booth 376, Colorado Convention Center, during the show.
