TM4B Introduces SMPP Interface

The TM4B SMS Gateway has, today, announced the launch of its SMPP Interface in Client-Gateway communications.

SMPP (Short Message Peer to Peer Protocol) is a telecommunications protocol which lets applications send/receive SMS through interaction with an SMSC (Short Message Service Centre) and whilst there are numerous other protocols which have the same intent, SMPP has the greatest market share and is widely regarded as an industry de-facto standard.

Commenting on this development, TM4B’s Managing Director Fahed Bizzari said, “This really is a great step forward for us. By providing the option to connect via SMPP, we can now satisfy the needs of the larger corporate clients and software vendors which we’ve had to turn down in the past.”

“On account of its ongoing popularity, we were certain that our industry-leading HTTP API could accommodate information systems of all sizes, but over time we came to realise that many organisations had already mobilised their applications using the SMPP protocol and we were losing out on their custom.”

“Through our new SMPP interface, we no longer have to turn down the types of high profile customers that would (otherwise) be partnering with us.”

TM4B’s support for SMPP is taking place through its partnership with a UK company, called Selenium Software, through the use of their product ‘Selenium SMPP Access’.

According to Abu Aaminah, TM4B’s Chief Technical Engineer, TM4B could have developed the SMPP Interface in-house, but felt “very confident in using Selenium Software’s products.”

In Abu Aaminah’s words, “Selenium Software has a very strong background in SMPP – they developed the SMPPSim SMSC simulator which has been used by company’s like Nokia, Ericsson and British Telecom to name but a few.”

As part of the his final comments on their decision to out-source the SMPP interface, Fahed also said, “I believe that the time-to-market benefit which Selenium Software has brought us is tremendous. I am very happy at the speed and efficiency that Selenium Software has brought us and look forward to adding even bigger names to our client base.”
