Ingenious Amplifier-Driven Counterweights Allow Rafter-Shaking Home Theater Bass from Safe, Secure, Installer-Friendly 10-Inch Woofers

CEDIA EXPO, Indianapolis, Sept. 9, 2005Sunfire Corp., a specialist in the design, manufacture and marketing of high-end audio/video components and subwoofers for the custom installation and retail markets, introduces the ContraBass In-Wall Subwoofer at the Custom Electronic Design and Installation Association (CEDIA) Expo 2005, beginning here today.

The ContraBass with Sunfire-patented anti-shake technology is a massive in-wall subwoofer featuring a revolutionary new design that shakes only the air, not the wall in which it’s mounted. Conventional in-wall subwoofers are limited in output to prevent sympathetic vibrations, sometimes audible as a buzzing or rattling sound, that have the tendency, over time, to damage wallboard, studs, and internal pipes and wires. The usual solution is to compromise the subwoofer by making it too weak to generate problematic vibrations.

Sunfire’s new ContraBass uses a breakthrough anti-shake technology to counteract the massive force generated by its advanced High-Pressure, High-Back-EMF output. The technology employs an ingenious amplifier-driven counterweight system that decreases vibrations by over 10dB, more than enough to allow rafter-shaking bass without taking the wall with it. Working in synch with the sub’s woofers and combined with a rigid enclosure, the counterweight cancels linear and rotational vibration modes, meaning both twisting and back-and-forth motion.

The ContraBass consists of the revolutionary counterweight system matched to two 10-inch proprietary Sunfire woofers featuring the High-Back-EMF motor structure employed in Sunfire’s acclaimed in-room True Subwoofers. It also includes the same easy-to-use Auto Room EQ system with calibrated measurement microphone used in Sunfire’s top-of-the-line in-room EQ models. The High-Back-EMF motor structure lets the woofers operate in their sweet spot without the chance of their being overdriven, and operate much more efficiently than would otherwise be the case.

The ContraBass measures an installer-friendly 53 inches high by 3.5 inches deep by 14 inches wide, and includes a massive three-quarter-inch MDF enclosure internally braced to withstand the enormous pressure the woofers generate. The enclosure not only optimizes the bass performance of the system, but is perfectly designed to fit into typical stud wall construction with 16-inch centers.

A dedicated, external Control Center and Tracking Downconverter Power Amplifier is included in the ContraBass package. The Power Amplifier puts out a staggering 2700 watts of dedicated sub-bass power, and the Control Center contains user- and installer-adjustable controls for volume, phase, and crossover. The Auto Room EQualization feature utilizes a calibrated microphone, which is supplied, to set the controls automatically and fine-tune the subwoofer’s performance for each individual installation. The Control Center’s beautiful, long-grain, Light Titanium or Anthracite face plate matches other Sunfire components, and measures just one single rack space in height for easy mounting in equipment racks.

The Control Center and Tracking Downconverter Power Amplifier connects to the ContraBass In-Wall Subwoofer enclosure via conventional in-wall-rated speaker cable. Sunfire’s exclusive Tracking Downconverter technology provides high-current power to speakers through a unique “just-in-time” approach that generates virtually no heat, making it possible to build a small but extremely powerful amplifier, even for subwoofers using massive drivers.

Each ContraBass Subwoofer also includes a grill that can be painted to completely blend into any wall surface in which it is installed.

The ContraBass In-Wall Subwoofer will be available within 90 days from authorized Sunfire dealers at a suggested price of $2,995 each. It can be seen with Sunfire’s other outstanding products in Booth 1840, Indiana Convention Center, during CEDIA EXPO.
