StarTech.com, a leading manufacturer of hard-to-find connectivity and technology parts, today announced the launch of their External Slim USB 2.0 DVD +/- RW Dual Layer Drive (part # SLIMDVDRW8U2). This versatile product will provide a simple solution for mobile users whose notebook computer lacks a built-in DVD-RW drive, or desktop users who want to be able to use their DVD-RW drive interchangeably with their notebook. The drive features a slim form factor Panasonic DVD+/-RW drive, enclosed in a sturdy, slim casing that allows for maximum portability and durability. SLIMDVDRW8U2 also offers the longevity and enhanced re-write ability offered by DVD-RAM technology, which is unique to most external drives.

“With the continuing boom in mobile computing, we feel that notebook users will benefit from an innovative line of products and accessories that are designed to bridge gaps between desktop and notebook capabilities,” says Carey Cline, Product Manager for StarTech.com. “This drive offers a slim, sturdy casing that can easily be carried in a notebook bag, and features DVD-RAM read/write capability – which is an uncommon feature among competitive models.”

“Most customers will find great value in the addition of DVD-RAM, based on the physical qualities of the technology,” says Cline, referring to the enhanced re-write ability and stability that DVD-RAM offers in opposition to standard RW technology.

SLIMDVDRW8U2 offers the following features and benefits:

  • Compact form factor, slim 12.7mm height
  • No power adapter required for CD/DVD-ROM use
  • Tray-loading design allows access to mini CDs
