CES Innovations Award-Winning HP-R5072 Anchors New 72-Series, Which Offers 42″, 50″ and 63″ Models Through Professional A/V Retail and Home Install Channels

Ridgefield Park, NJ, August 10, 2005 – Samsung a global leader in plasma and TV technology, provides high-end A/V retailers with its celebrated 72-series of plasma HDTVs. Led by the CES Innovations Award winning 50″ HP-R5072, this 5th generation line of plasma televisions was designed to accommodate the specialty A/V retail market with elite performance and stunning design. Samsung’s 72-series represents a step up in features, and offers models in sizes to complement any living room or home theater including the 42″ HP-R4272, the 50″ HP-R5072, and the 63″ HP-R6372.

“Samsung’s design innovation and commitment to flat-panel excellence have resulted in a top-tier line of plasmas that represent our ascension into an elite category of high-end flat panel display manufacturers,”said Jonas Tanenbaum, Director of Flat Panel and Direct View Marketing for Samsung Electronics America. “Samsung is pleased to make the special-featured, design-enhanced, 72-series of plasmas available through our specialty A/V retail partners and the home-install channel.”

“Samsung has been raising the bar over the last few years in this category and this new 72 series of plasmas was especially designed to add value within the specialty A/V channel. These High definition models compete admirably with the brands which have been historically regarded as the category leaders,”stated Frank Roshinski, Vice President of Video Merchandising, Tweeter Entertainment Group.

Additionally, all models in the series offer the standard features that have put Samsung plasmas at the top of consumer wish lists. Samsung’s premium “bezel-less” design packs high performance into a slim case that is less than 4″ deep. With some of the highest brightness and contrast ratings offered for plasma TVs, 549 billion displayable colors, and Samsung’s DNIe image enhancer, Samsung’s Gen-5 plasma panels deliver an unbelievable picture from nearly any audio or video source. Plus, they’re ready for tomorrow’s technology today, thanks to their built-in HD tuner, purely digital HDMI input and digital cable ready CableCARD compatible technology. The result is a sleek, elegant TV that displays one of the clearest, most detailed HD images available.

The CES Innovations Award-winning HP-R5072 is the flagship model of the 72-series, setting the benchmark for contrast and brightness. Its 10,000:1 contrast ratio and 1,300cd/m2 brightness are among the highest in the industry. Samsung’s 13-bit processing method produces lifelike colors and aids in video signal processing of analog sources to ensure a more natural and vivid picture. The 175-degree vertical and horizontal viewing angle provides a great picture from almost any vantage point.

Each model in the 72-series features Samsung’s proprietary Digital NaturalImage engine (DNIea) technology. DNIe analyzes video signal elements in order to produce sharper detail, clearer image separation and more natural edge transition. Advanced image processors help to create true to life colors and high contrast, while virtually eliminating digital artifacts. Fast-moving images are optimized to produce more natural-looking motion, thus reducing video noise or blurring. Brightness and contrast levels are enhanced for deeper, richer blacks with greater detail, and more natural whites. Colors are reproduced with a more lifelike realism, whites are more accurate, and skin tones are given a more natural hue.

All three models are currently available through specialty A/V retailers. The HP-R4272 is priced at MSRP $4,199; the HP-R5072 has a $5,699 MSRP; and HP-R6372 is valued at MSRP $12,999.
