Removing Uncertainties Surrounding Licensing Obligations of Open Source and Other Third Party Software
Protecode Inc. today launched Release 2.0 of its flagship software governance products to further enable the safe adoption of open source software and the life-time management of enterprise code portfolios. The Enterprise IP Analyzer is a software solution that analyzes and accurately identifies all code in any directory, producing customizable reports on the licensing and copyright obligations, as well as other attributes of the binary or source code. The Developer IP Assistant, available as an Eclipse plug-in, is the industry’s first preventive tool for automated real-time software IP management. Release 2.0 provides enhancements to the usability of IP reports and increases the depth and breadth of the pedigree discovery process in enterprise code portfolios.
Prominent among the new and enhanced features of Release 2.0 are:
- Automated tracking of licensing obligations throughout the evolution of the enterprise code portfolio;
- A structured and easy-to-navigate pedigree map, with enhanced reporting capabilities for large code repositories;
- Advanced code snippet analysis through flexible partial matching with open source and 3rd party code; and
- Extensive support for licenses and copyrights that are not part of the standard Open Source Initiative (OSI) repertoire.
“Our research in the embedded systems industry continues to confirm a growing reliance on software from third party suppliers and the open source community, with the amount of software required for the typical project increasing on an annual basis,” says Matt Volckmann, Senior Analyst/Program Manager, VDC Research. “As project teams endeavor to manage greater amounts of software obtained from a diversity of internal and external sources, VDC expects that licensing and compliance management solutions, similar to those offered by Protecode, along with other tools enabling more effective administration and analysis of the code base, will become more critical components of the software and system engineering process.”
Protecode offers a comprehensive suite of products and services that seamlessly work together to provide on-demand or preventive, real-time management of licensing and copyright obligations in enterprise code portfolios. These products have gained industry reputation for ease of adoption, installation and use.
“Tight collaboration with our customers has enabled us to rapidly address the most pertinent aspects of software governance and upgrade our tools with more code portfolio analysis capabilities and new IP management features, while maintaining our hallmark of user friendliness,” said Mahshad Koohgoli, CEO of Protecode. “Protecode tools can be installed, set-up and begin operation within a few minutes, without requiring any special training on the part of management or developers.”
Protecode will showcase its products and services at EclipseCon 2009 (booth # 410), March 23rd-26th in Santa Clara, California.
