Pro Audio Technology (PRO) has unveiled Version 2 (V2) updates for five of its most popular loudspeakers, introducing meaningful performance refinements aimed squarely at high-end private screening rooms. Known for supplying loudspeakers and amplified controller systems to elite residential cinemas, PRO’s latest revisions focus on improved output, refinement, and system integration—substantive engineering upgrades rather than cosmetic tweaks.
The V2 lineup spans several of Pro Audio Technology’s most in-demand designs, covering everything from compact multi-use speakers to serious low-frequency muscle. Models receiving the update include the SR-28212ai, a dual-12-inch full-range surround speaker with an integrated subwoofer; the S-12sm, a versatile 12-inch loudspeaker alongside its shallow SR-12ai counterpart; the SR-8ai, a compact yet high-output 8-inch shallow multi-use speaker; and the formidable LFC-24sm 24-inch subwoofer.
All Pro Audio Technology loudspeakers—including these new V2 versions—are built to order in the USA and engineered for environments where dynamics and output matter as much as refinement.
The common thread across the lineup is high maximum SPL capability paired with controlled, articulate performance, making them a natural fit for elite private cinemas and high-performance residential installations where compromise isn’t part of the brief.

“In 2025, we took a good look at our line-up of high-performing loudspeakers and instead of asking ‘what else should we make?’ we challenged our engineering team to take our best-selling models to the next level. Tweaking and improving PRO’s already highly respected line of loudspeakers and subwoofers was no easy feat, but our engineers did not disappoint. By leveraging upgraded transducers combined with the highest-resolution loudspeaker processing in the company’s 20+ year history, 2025 brought substantial, tangible performance enhancements to these models,” said Marc Bertrand, CSO of Pro Audio Technology
Pro Audio Technology loudspeakers are known for their accurate, detailed, and highly refined sonic character, and that reputation is rooted in serious engineering discipline. PRO invests heavily in state-of-the-art laboratory equipment and advanced modeling software from industry leaders such as Klippel, Brüel & Kjær, Audio Precision, and Loudsoft, ensuring that design decisions are driven by data rather than guesswork.
Central to PRO’s development process is the Klippel Near Field Scanner (NFS) acoustic scanning robot—the most advanced and precise tool available for measuring loudspeaker performance. Every PRO loudspeaker is developed and optimized using the NFS, allowing engineers to analyze radiation behavior, distortion, and frequency response with exceptional accuracy. The result is a speaker that is carefully optimized to deliver faithful, consistent sound reproduction in real-world installations, not just on paper.
SR-28212ai v2

“The SR-28212ai v2 full-range loudspeaker is the most refined speaker PRO has produced to date. We’ve now incorporated the Theory Audio Design 1.7-inch, 16-ohm compression driver. Not only does this update improve on the SR-28212’s already remarkable performance, it also helps lower the audible system noise floor in large installations where many very high-efficiency tweeters are deployed,” explained Paul Hales, CEO of Pro Audio Technology
“We are particularly proud of the full-range SR-28212ai model, which sets a new standard for bandwidth (22Hz-23kHz), resolution, and timbral accuracy from loudspeakers of any category. The SR-28212ai resolves more musical detail than my $4,500 reference beryllium headphones, which is crazy if you think about it. That such a capable loudspeaker is only 6” deep is icing on the cake. The fact is, real-world loudspeaker acoustic response doesn’t get much better than this!”
SPL Measurements

The remaining V2 updates across the S-12sm v2, SR-12ai v2, and SR-8ai v2 focus on lowering system noise while improving overall refinement and consistency in large-scale installations. Each of these models now replaces the previous third-party 8-ohm compression driver with PRO’s proprietary Theory Audio Design 1.7-inch, 16-ohm compression driver. The higher impedance reduces the tendency of these very high-efficiency loudspeakers to expose amplifier and system noise, resulting in a noticeably lower noise floor—especially important in systems with many speakers.
In addition, PRO implemented new, higher-resolution DSP tuning and voicing across these models. By fully leveraging data gathered from the Klippel Near Field Scanner, engineers were able to refine DSP processing with greater precision, yielding improved tonal balance, clarity, and consistency. The result is not a cosmetic refresh, but a measurable and audible performance upgrade across the entire V2 lineup.
LFC-24sm 24-inch Subwoofer

The LFC-24sm 24-inch Subwoofer receives one of the most substantial upgrades in the V2 rollout. PRO replaced the previous third-party 24-inch, 8-ohm driver with a proprietary Theory Audio Design unit rated at 1,800 watts AES and 3,600 watts continuous, anchored by a massive neodymium motor. This change significantly increases power handling, control, and long-term reliability at extreme output levels.
As part of the redesign, impedance was shifted from 8 ohms to 4 ohms, allowing the subwoofer to draw more power from the required Theory loudspeaker controllers and fully exploit their performance potential. PRO also applied new, higher-resolution DSP tuning and voicing, again leveraging extensive data from the Klippel Near Field Scanner to refine low-frequency behavior with greater precision. The result is deeper, cleaner, and more authoritative bass designed specifically for large-scale, reference-level private cinema environments.

Improvements Across the PRO V2 Line
Continuous improvement is a core advantage of investing in Pro Audio Technology systems. By employing advanced DSP techniques within a tightly controlled, closed ecosystem, PRO is able to deliver exceptionally high performance while maintaining industry-leading reliability. This approach ensures that loudspeakers, subwoofers, and controllers are optimized to work together as a unified system rather than a collection of loosely matched components.
Just as important, PRO’s engineering team is relentless about refinement. Voicing updates are not treated as one-off events but as an ongoing process, with incremental improvements continually informed by new measurements, listening evaluations, and real-world system feedback. The result is a product line that doesn’t stand still—each generation benefits from everything learned before it, pushing performance forward without compromising consistency or stability.
Theory Loudspeaker Controllers

The sonic voicing for all Pro Audio Technology loudspeakers resides within the Theory loudspeaker controllers, allowing PRO to manage performance at the system level rather than on a per-component basis. When improved voicing becomes available for a specific PRO loudspeaker model, a corresponding firmware update is released for the appropriate controllers, ensuring existing systems benefit from the latest refinements.

The Bottom Line
Pro Audio Technology’s V2 upgrades aren’t about chasing headlines or refreshing a product line for appearance’s sake—they’re the result of deliberate, measurable engineering refinements. By upgrading transducers, reworking impedance where it matters, and applying higher-resolution DSP voicing informed by extensive Klippel Near Field Scanner data, PRO has meaningfully lowered noise floors, improved clarity, and increased system headroom across the lineup. These changes translate directly into cleaner dynamics, greater consistency in large systems, and more precise bass and speaker integration in real rooms.
Just as important, the performance gains are delivered within PRO’s closed, controller-based ecosystem, ensuring reliability and long-term value through free firmware updates rather than forced hardware churn. Paul Hales and his engineering teams didn’t just “tune harder”—they refined the entire signal chain, from driver selection to DSP execution. The result is a lineup that plays louder, cleaner, and more controlled than before, and does so with the kind of power handling and composure that elite private theaters demand.
