Phase Technology Redefines Versatility with the CI-70 In-Wall Speaker

JACKSONVILLE, FL — September 2, 2004 — Phase Technology, pioneering leader in speaker design and engineering, announced the newest addition to its Custom Installation Family, the CI-70 Series VII Rectangular In-Wall Speaker.

The CI-70 Series VII features three-way performance with a mid-range driver and user-adjustable tweeter, each mounted off-axis to produce exceptional clarity and expanded dynamics over an entire collection of movies and music. In addition to improved audio performance, the CI-70 Series VII uses Phase Technology’s patent-pending QuickMount and Universal Flange and Grille design to shorten installation time and give installers more freedom than ever to create flexible home theater and multi-room sound systems. The CI-70 Series VII will ship in September at a suggested retail price of $425.00 each.

“The new Series VII Custom Installation Family is designed from the ground up to be the installer’s solution for building high-performance in-wall speaker systems—-faster and with the same outstanding level of performance on every job,” said Roberta Lewis, vice president of sales and marketing of Phase Technology. “With our new QuickMount mounting mechanism, the Series VII speakers deliver incredible flexibility and performance.”

The new model features a 7″ cone woofer – the largest in the series – made from mineral-filled, injection-molded polypropylene for a high stiffness-to-mass ratio that produces powerful lows while maintaining tight responses. The speaker’s 1″ tweeter and 1.5″ mid-range drivers use Phase Technology’s patented soft dome design, adapted from the PC 9.1 tower, and are mounted off-axis to avoid the diffracted effects that build between sound waves produced by vertically aligned drivers. In addition, the user-adjustable tweeter enables sound to be directed to the listening area to enhance the overall entertainment experience.

Phase Technology’s CI Series VII is the first speaker family to feature the exclusive, patent- pending QuickMount baffle. Combined with Phase Technology’s Universal Flange and Grille, the Series VII is the most flexible in-wall solution available today. QuickMount baffles have four flip-latches that swivel to instantly lock onto flange mounting posts. Installers don’t have to touch a single screw when placing them. And the universally designed flanges accept five different CI-Rectangular models so installers can fully prepare job sites – prewiring, mounting and painting flanges and grilles – ordering speakers only when homeowners are ready. QuickMount also lets installers quickly upgrade and downgrade speakers at any time without having to retouch any paint since baffles are easily removed from flanges, which don’t need to be detached.

The CI-70 also features Phase Technology’s Absolute Phase Crossover, which ensures all drivers operate acoustically and electronically in-phase. This guarantees a deep and defined soundstage that reveals no seams even when sound effects traverse vertical or horizontal extremes of the listening area. With seats positioned off-center and speakers installed in out-of-the-way positions – even turned on their side – the CI-70’s Absolute Phase Crossover gives each listener their own personal sweet spot and an immersive movie and music experience.

Furthermore, Phase Technology incorporated its Low Level Linearity in the CI-70’s design, which guarantees treble and bass maintain tonal balance and proportion for detailed performance even when speakers are used at background volumes.

About Phase Technology

Phase Technology Corporation (toll-free at 888-PHASE TK; website at www.phasetech.com) is one of the few fully-vertically integrated American speaker manufacturers. The company started as United Speaker Systems in 1955 as an original equipment manufacturer and still designs and produces its own sub-assemblies in-house. Phase Technology’s speaker lines incorporate many proprietary innovations like the soft-dome tweeter, the industry’s standard invented by Bill Hecht, founder of Phase Technology. Other patents cover the self-damping woofer voice coil, the manufacturing process for flat-piston midrange drivers and woofers, silicone-injected drivers for resonance damping, and the positive-clamping mounting system for the premier in-wall Model CI-110/II. The company also developed the Unicell Zero-Diffraction treatment that reduces acoustic reflections off cabinet and grille surfaces. Phase Technology manufactures its wood cabinets by hand and performs quality control tests at every step of the fabrication process.
