Lyngdorf Audio has made a name for itself with cutting-edge digital amplification, multichannel processors, RoomPerfect calibration, and loudspeakers that don’t come cheap. But not every music listener has the space—or the nerve—to drag a pair of floor-standing speakers into the middle of the room. Enter the FR-2, Lyngdorf’s 18th speaker and woofer design, engineered specifically to sit against a wall without compromising imaging or acoustic performance. It’s a rare example of a speaker that acknowledges real-world room constraints while still delivering the precision and depth Lyngdorf is known for.
Lyngdorf FR-2: Features That Set This Wall-Friendly Speaker Apart
FR stands for Full Range, and the FR-2 is Lyngdorf’s second full-range on-wall speaker, following the FR-1. Beyond its acoustic design, the FR-2 ushers in a new chapter for Lyngdorf Audio, showcasing the company’s in-house cabinet production and lacquering, all crafted in Denmark. It’s not just a speaker—it’s a statement of precision and control from the ground up.
The FR-2’s drive units sit in a remarkably shallow cabinet designed to work with your room, not fight it. Tuned specifically for wall placement, its woofers are positioned as close to the wall as possible, producing an ideal low-frequency impulse response. The result is a bass that’s tight, controlled, and surprisingly powerful—something most freestanding speakers struggle to achieve.

The FR-2 relies on two high-performance 6.5” (18cm) woofers built with rigid vented die-cast baskets, oversized magnets, and lightweight aluminum cones. A soft-dome tweeter with its own powerful magnet completes the driver array. Together, they deliver high efficiency, impressive output, and low distortion. With a linear 4-ohm impedance, the FR-2 makes it easy for any amplifier to show its full potential.
The FR-2 uses a downward-facing bass reflex port, hidden from sight while maintaining the ideal distance to both the floor and wall corner. More than just tuned for wall placement, the FR-2 is physically shaped around that purpose, making its design as functional as it is intentional.
The FR-2 is unusually shallow, with smooth, rounded edges and a front baffle that flows seamlessly into the top panel. Available in three satin-matte finishes and paired with two optional fabric covers from Danish textile specialist Gabriel, the design allows the FR-2 to blend effortlessly into almost any living space.
The FR-2 can stand freely on the floor or be mounted on the wall with an optional bracket for the smallest possible footprint. Each enclosure is built and lacquered in-house at Lyngdorf Audio’s new cabinet facility in Denmark, ensuring both precision and consistency.

From Anker Haldan, CCO Steinway Lyngdorf: “With the Lyngdorf FR-2, we expand our portfolio of floor-standing speakers. Last year, we introduced the Cue100, with no compromises in design or technology. Now we elevate the on-wall concept to a floor-standing Lyngdorf product. We know this concept well from our Steinway & Sons range, and we are confident that our sales channels and customers will embrace this solution for its acoustic advantages and space-saving room placement benefits.”
From Roland Hoffmann, Product Marketing Director, Steinway Lyngdorf: “When looking at today’s loudspeaker market, it is surprising how many conventional hifi box speakers there are, and how few loudspeakers are made for living rooms in a modern and elegant way. The new Lyngdorf FR-2 is unusually shallow, specially designed and tuned to be placed right against the wall. It works with the room acoustics rather than against them, and it also features modern colors and fabric covers.”
From Brian Nielsen, Mechanical Designer Lyngdorf Audio: “The basic shape of any on-wall speaker is very rectangular and flat against the wall, so we gave the middle part of the FR-2 an extra shape, which also covers all screws and driver baskets. With this design element, the speaker looks much more elegant and slimmer. The fabric grill is placed instead of the baffle, so it is totally flush with the speaker front.”

The Bottom Line
Most loudspeakers demand room to breathe—pull them out from the wall or suffer the boundary effect, where reflections smear bass and imaging. That’s a dealbreaker for many music lovers who simply don’t have the space. The Lyngdorf Audio FR-2 flips that script. Purpose-built for wall placement, it uses a shallow cabinet, tuned woofers, and a downward-firing port to work with room boundaries instead of against them.
The result is tight bass, clean imaging, and serious scale from a footprint that respects your living space. At $2,000 each, the FR-2 isn’t cheap, but in Lyngdorf terms it’s almost accessible—and for anyone who’s struggled with speaker placement, it could be the most practical high-end solution yet.
