LSI Logic Broadens Leadership in Multimedia Processing With Entrance into Display Processing Market

• VisionSpectrum display processor (VDP-7500) unveiled at CES 2005 as first product in a family of processors
• LSI Logic brings over a decade of experience in audio and video solutions to the Digital TV market
• ClearView image processing technology delivers higher value for mainstream TVs through superior video quality and features usually associated with premium TVs

LSI Logic Corporation announced its entry into the display processing market backed by over a decade of leadership in multimedia processing for the Digital Home. With the unveiling of VisionSpectrum 7500 (VDP-7500), the first product in its LSI Logic family of display processors, the company is offering manufacturers an optimal price-performance solution for the flat-panel display market to meet the growing consumer demand for Digital TV (DTV) and High Definition (HD) displays.

The VDP-7500 display processor is a 3D scaler and deinterlacer that generates the video quality comparable to the industry’s highest-end solutions, with a price-performance value that makes it ideal for powering mainstream LCDs, plasma TVs, and other pixilated displays. It supports worldwide Standard Definition and High Definition inputs and performs advanced video processing to enable the best viewing experience on any flat-panel display.

“With an estimated 69 percent increase in unit shipments in 2005, DTV will be a major driver in the consumer electronics semiconductor sector,” said Michelle Abraham, senior analyst, In-Stat. “LSI Logic is well positioned to excel in the display processor market, with its reputation for providing high-quality, cost-effective multimedia processing solutions that have been designed into high-end professional products, as well as consumer products from customers such as JVC, Lite-On IT, LG Electronics, Samsung, Sony and Zenith.”

The VisionSpectrum processor leverages LSI Logic’s industry-leading ClearView technologies to provide superior picture quality on any flat-panel display:
• 3D digital comb filter for NTSC and PAL;
• Proprietary pixel enhancement technology;
• 3D motion adaptive deinterlacer with film mode detection; and
• Advanced 3D noise reduction.

Unique to the VisionSpectrum processor family, the VDP-7500 integrates a 3D digital comb filter for NTSC and PAL and proprietary pixel enhancement algorithms, which allow manufacturers to raise the bar on video quality for mainstream flat-panel TVs and provide greater value to the end consumer without increased cost.

In addition, the VisionSpectrum architecture integrates several display processing functions such as 16 Picture-in-Picture (PIP) modes, Picture-On-Picture (POP) modes, superior contrast and color enhancement, and a flexible On-Screen-Display (OSD) controller, making it one of the most feature-rich, yet cost-effective display processing solutions available in the market today. To enable manufacturers to achieve faster time-to-market and maximum system design flexibility, LSI Logic also provides VDP-7500 reference design kits.

“LSI Logic is well-established leader in innovative digital media solutions and our entry into the display processor market complements our technologies and customer relationships in the consumer space,” said Umesh Padval, executive vice president for LSI Logic’s Consumer Products Division. “Featuring our patented image processing algorithms, the VDP-7500 has a powerful combination of technologies that enable mainstream flat panels to display sharp images, high color fidelity and contrast, and better picture quality typically associated with higher priced competitive solutions.”

LSI Logic’s Consumer Products Division provides innovative digital media processing and silicon solutions to industry-leading, worldwide consumer electronics manufacturers. With a complete line of cutting-edge products for DVD, DVR, EVD, video game, digital TV, HDTV, set-top box, and professional video production/broadcasting devices, LSI Logic delivers entertainment into and throughout the Digital Home.
