CES 2023: LG’s 97-inch OLED TV with Zero Connect Technology Offers Wireless Performance

LG’s 97-inch M3 OLED TV with Zero Connect Technology eliminates cable clutter with wireless transmission of 4K content.

LG Zero Connect Stand

LG Electronics has pushed the envelope more than a few times over the past decade with its OLED TV technology and it would appear that CES 2023 will continue that trend. Introducing the next generation of LG OLED TVs was one of the highlights of media day at CES 2023 and the intrigue continues this morning with the launch of its Signature 97-inch M3 OLED TV.

The M3 is being touted by LG as the world’s first consumer TV with Zero Connect technology. This feature provides real-time wireless video and audio transmission at up to 4K 120Hz. The M3 delivers superior picture and sound quality as well as greater flexibility to install and connect.

Tip: The LG’s M3 has been recognized with a CES 2023 Innovation Award.

Unlike other TVs, where all input ports for connecting external devices are on the rear or sides, the M3 comes with a separate Zero Connect box that sends video and audio signals wirelessly to the TV.

As a result, the Zero Connect box eliminates cable clutter to the TV providing more installation flexibility, and creating a cleaner look for your viewing space. However, you still need to find a place for the box (which is larger than most set-top boxes)  that is close to the devices you want to connect to it.

LG Zero Connect Box

The box comes with multiple ports for plugging in HDMI source devices, such as cable/satellite set-top boxes, Blu-ray/UHD Blu-ray players, and gaming consoles.

Tip: The box also connects wirelessly with a compatible soundbar via HDMI-ARC/eARC.

LG’s wireless solution is designed to provide stable video/audio transmission to the M3’s OLED display – with support for up to 4K 120Hz, and clear, crisp sound, without interruption or degradation of quality.

To ensure efficient data transfer from the box to the TV, LG Electronics has developed an algorithm that instantly identifies the optimal transmission path.

The algorithm also helps to minimize transmission errors or disruptions as it can recognize changes in the immediate environment – such as people or pets moving around the room – and switch paths accordingly. For maximum signal strength, the box’s antenna can be easily rotated and/or tilted to align with the TV’s location.

Tip: The Zero Connect box is voice recognition-enabled, meaning users can turn on and manage the M3 and connected devices using simple, spoken commands.

Despite the imposing size of its screen, the M3 blends in easily with just about any interior décor due to its understated One Wall Design. The M3 and its integrated bracket sit flush against the wall with no visible gap, presenting a chic, art gallery aesthetic that augments the TV’s OLED display.

Tip: You still have to connect the OLED display and the Zero Connect Box to AC power, so you can’t say that the M3 is totally wireless, unlike the Displace Wireless TV concept also being shown at CES 2023.

Detailed features, specifications, availability, and pricing information are still forthcoming from LG USA; this will not be an inexpensive TV and we expect pricing to exceed $25,000 to $30,000 USD.

November 2023 Update:

The LG M3 Wireless 97-inch OLED 4K TV is available for $29,999 at LG, Best Buy and Amazon.
