LaCie Announces the 2big Family of Professional RAID Drives

‘¢ Multiple Interfaces to meet specific professional needs
‘¢ Numerous RAID configurations for maximum speed or security
‘¢ Two hot swappable, removable hard drives
‘¢ Superior Design with its glowing blue programmable smart button

PORTLAND, OR (September 2007) ‘” LaCie announced today its 2big family of professional RAID drives. This new LaCie family will be comprised of the 2big Dual, 2big Triple and the 2big Network. The three separate models will have storage capacities ranging from 1 to 2 terabytes and are differentiated by their advanced features and unique interfaces. Designed by Neil Poulton, the LaCie 2big family all feature an attractive new natural cooling, heat sink metal design with a thermoregulated progressive smart fan to ensure long-lasting reliability and quite operation.

The LaCie 2big Dual and 2big Triple are performance enhanced storage devices with interfaces for high-speed data transfer. The 2big Dual combines eSata II, ideal for audio and multi-stream video editing or USB 2.0, while the 2big Triple utilizes FireWire 800, FireWire 400 or USB 2.0 connections for creative professionals. The 2big Network is an Ethernet version that can act as a file sharing or backup server. It can also be used as an FTP server that enables sharing of important files, making them accessible from anywhere around the world. When capacity runs low, two additional hard drives can be added through additional USB 2.0 ports.

‘The new LaCie 2big family is an important addition to our current product line,’ said Marie Renouard, LaCie Product Manager. ‘We listened to industry demand and created a product that is not only stylish, but allows for massive capacity, high speed and security on demand. The two hot-swappable bays requires no configuration and assure that information will always be there when needed.’

The 2big is a complete RAID solution, and can be individually configured for performance or safety. If requiring optimum speed and capacity, Fast mode (Raid 0) can be chosen to simultaneously write to both disks without redundancy. If data security is more to your liking, Safe 100 mode (RAID 1) automatically mirrors data by splitting capacity into two identical volumes. If a drive fails while in this mode, insertion of a new drive** automatically rebuilds data without any downtime.

The 2big Dual and Triple come with EMCA RetrospectA Express for advanced backup management and data restoration for Windows and Mac. This user-friendly software simplifies back up and restores data using a step-by-step wizard. All members of the 2big family include a large glowing blue shortcut button that can be programmed to launch any application, such as backup software, music or photo slideshows, instantly with one easy push.

Availability
The LaCie 2big Network and Triple are expected to ship in September followed by the 2big Dual in October. The 2big family will be available from LaCie direct and widely available via LaCie’s specialized dealer network at the suggested retail price starting at $399.
