Kaleidescape’s New Terra Prime 123TB SSD Server Can Store up to 2,000 4K Movies

For well-heeled customers, Kaleidescape’s latest movie server offers a vast amount of movie storage in a single industrial grade piece of hardware.

Kaleidescape Terra Prime Solid State

Owners of the Kaleidescape movie player ecosystem have a new option for movie storage. The Kaleidescape Terra Prime Solid State Server now comes in a 123 TB (terabyte) version at a list price of $64,995. This joins the company’s existing Terra Prime SSD 31TB ($24,995) and Terra Prime Compact 8TB ($9,995) in the Terra Prime Solid State server line-up.

The new 123TB server can store around 2,000 movies in full quality high bitrate 4K resolution with lossless immersive audio. If you network four of them together you can store Kaleidescape’s entire catalog of purchasable movies and TV shows in your very own server farm.

Kaleidescape currently offers over 12,000 movies and TV episodes for purchase and over 8,000 titles for rent. Many of the titles are available in 4K UHD with HDR and hundreds of these titles are not available on Blu-ray Disc or UHD Blu-ray. The new Terra Prime Solid State server can simultaneously deliver high-bitrate 4K audio/video streams to 25 different Kaleidescape players so it can work in even the largest home (or yacht).

Kaleidescape’s intuitive user interface allows you to access your entire movie library in super high quality audio and video with a few clicks on the remote.

The Terra Prime SSD server can download a 4K movie from the Kaleidescape servers in as few as 4 minutes with a suitable internet connection. But where the Kaleidescape system really shines is where internet service may be spotty or unavailable, such as out at sea. Having the ability to store so many movies locally means never having to wait for a movie download. All movies are stored securely and are protected by cloud back-ups on Kaleidescape’s own corporate servers. So in the unlikely event that one of your servers fails, nothing is lost.

The Terra Prime SSD server features a 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet connection and data center grade solid-state drives. Kaleidescape also offers smaller capacity SSD servers in a more compact form factor as well as traditional “spinning disc” hard drive server options in a number of different capacities. All can be networked together and accessed from any Kaliedescape player within your home network.

Those interested in dipping their toes in the Kaleidescape waters can purchase the company’s latest standalone movie player, the Kaleidescape Strato V. The Strato V ($3,995) has its own built-in storage for up to 10 high bitrate 4K movies, offers Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos and DTS:X support and is compatible with the company’s suite of Terra Prime and Terra Prime Solid State movie servers for expanded local movie storage.

Kaleidescape products will be on display at CEDIA Expo in Denver from September 5 to September 7, 2024. They shouldn’t be too hard to find as Kaleidescape players and servers were in use in 42 different booths at least year’s EXPO. Kaleidescape will have their own booth at the Colorado Convention Center (Booth #2543) for the duration of the show.

The Bottom Line

Those who can afford the Kaleidescape movie player and ecosystem likely won’t bat an eye at the high price of this new top-of-the-line movie server. For them, the quality, convenience, speed and reliabilty of housing their entire movie library on a single industrial strength server will be worth the price of admission. For the rest of us, that Strato V movie player with its own on-board storage is looking pretty tempting.
