Large Storage Capacity DVDs Feature Double-Layer Technology
CITY OF INDUSTRY, Calif., December 20, 2005 — Abcron Corporation, a rapidly growing new contender in the consumer electronics marketplace, announced today a new addition to its line of optical media products the 2.4X PlayO Double Layer DVD +R.
With a storage capacity of 8.5GB, the PlayO Double Layer DVD +R discs enable data to be either recorded or read on one layer without affecting the other layer. This means that up to four hours of DVD quality video, 16 hours of VHS quality video or over 120 hours of MP3 audio may be recorded or read on a single side. This convenience allows users to see or hear the entire disc without having to flip or change the disc mid-stream.
“This product is ideal for those applications that require large storage capacity,” stated Andy Huang, Vice President of Abcron Corporation. “The PlayO Double Layer DVD +R allows users to read, write or view nearly twice the amount of data than with single-layer discs.”
The Industrial Economics and Knowledge Center (IEK) of the Japanese government-sponsored Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), stated in its 2006 global DVD demand projection that DVD consumption will rise 30% from this year to about 5.0 billion DVD discs. The association said the largest growth will be seen in 16x DVD+R/-R and DVD+R/-R DL (single-sided double-layer) discs.
The new Double Layer DVD +R discs are compatible with current DVD based video players, game consoles and DVD-ROM drives as well as DVD-R DL drives. Double layer technology breakthroughs allow material to be either read or recorded on one layer without affecting the second layer. It records at speeds of 1 ~ 4X and uses a high quality organic dye.
The PlayO Double Layer DVD +R discs are competitively street priced and available at leading computer and office-supply locations as well as through popular online retail sites. The new double layer discs are packaged in five pack slim jewel cases, 10 pack cake boxes, and 25 cake boxes.
