Focus — Smart Phones & SMS
Now SMS can be a killer application even for smart and sexy looking Smart phones.
Smart phone have heavier and robust OS which can run complex applications. Imagine a scenario where an ATM service engineer is trying to fix up an ATM Machine. He would need to have previous history of issues & repairs for the ATM in order to do a complete diagnosis of the problem.
The best way to solve this business problem is to provide the service engineer with a Smart phone on which there runs an application where he can manage/retrieve/store information regarding the service calls he attends. The information can be synchronized/ pulled from the central server on need basis over SMS which can then directly be absorbed by the application listening at a specific port. SMS is a better option for pulling information compared to GPRS when it comes to pulling small chunks of information as SMS is a push technology and in GPRS environment one will have to run a pooling process to enable that.
