ELAN Home Systems Announces THP800C Pointable Home Theater Speakers Now Shipping

First in 8-Piece TheaterPoint Line Delivered,
Setting New Standard for Pivoting Home Theater In-Ceiling Speakers

LEXINGTON, KY — ELAN Home Systems, a leading manufacturer of award-winning Multi-Room audio/video and home automation systems, announced today that the company is now shipping the first product in it’s highly anticipated new TheaterPoint line of Home Theater Speakers, the THP800C 8- inch In-Ceiling Speaker. The THP800C has a revolutionary, patent-pending design which sets a new benchmark for pivoting home theater speakers, and is one of 8 models in the TheaterPoint line. The comprehensive line made its trade debut at CEDIA 2005 in Indianapolis, and marks the company’s first major strategic move into the home theater arena. The announcement was made by Bob Farinelli, ELAN’s President and Chief Technology Officer.

“There are plenty of ceiling speakers with pivoting tweeters these days; and then there are our THP800C ceiling speakers which are so exceptional that they represent a truly pivotal change of standards and flexibility in sound quality,” said Mr. Farinelli. “These beauties install up and out of the way in the ceiling and can be rotated and pointed to create the ultimate sweet spot in any room.”

ELAN’s unique, patent-pending design does what no other rotating baffle speaker can do. The THP800C Speakers optimize the wide dispersion properties of low frequencies while simultaneously steering the more-directional midrange and high frequencies into the listening area in a true time-aligned manner.

The THP800C’s unique 3-way design begins with the woofer aimed directly downward for maximum dispersion of its room-wide bass field. This, in turn, allows for greater tilt of the 2.5-inch woven Kevlar midrange driver and the .75-inch woven Kevlar dome tweeter, both of which are mounted in a vibration-free, rotating assembly that is on a fixed 30-degree angle from the woofer’s audio axis. This not only isolates midrange driver’s lower frequencies from the upper frequencies of the woofer’s spectrum but, when steered into the listening area, creates an amazing sonic experience which appears to come from directly in front of the listener instead of from the ceiling.

Additionally, the THP800C’s tweeter can pivot independently of the tilted baffle, allowing for even more pin-point accuracy of highly-directional upper frequencies. Once the speaker is set up for the home theater installation, the 360-degree rotating assembly’s locking mechanism requires only one screw be tightened by the Installer to prevent any future movement of the adjusted drivers.

“The THP800C redefines expectations of an in-ceiling speaker and excels at whatever job the Specialty Installer requires. From front stage left/right or center, rear channel surround sound, or any standard stereo application where high-fidelity speakers are desired, this model is the answer,” added Paul Starkey, ELAN’s EVP of Sales and Marketing.

The entire TheaterPoint (THP) line of Home Theater Speakers has been designed to provide Specialty Dealers with exactly the right assortment, including eight models that embrace ELAN’s advanced engineering, dramatic esthetics, and explosive sound. The line can accommodate a great variety of speaker specifications from 5.1 basic, all-in-ceiling configurations up to 7.1 full surround sound, and everything in between.

Unlike many companies today that OEM parts or even the speakers themselves, THP Speakers have been meticulously engineered by ELAN from the ground up and set a new standard through the incorporation of exclusive, unique features. Relevant THP models have directed-sound through “pointable” tweeters with laser precision that provide that perfect sweet spot every time, regardless of the room. And, through use of an ELAN-provided special laser pointer, Dealers can easily calibrate the sound to each individual home theater.

Unique-to-industry THP features beyond the THP800C include a vertically or horizontally mounted in-wall LCR Speaker whose angled baffle can be flipped to point sound left, right, up or down. Also included are horizontally-mounted dipoles that provide greater dispersion and have acoustically symmetrical tweeter/mid cavities with foam-lined walls for minimum reflection.

Each THP Speaker has also been crafted from the finest materials known to maximize performance. Some highlights include all Kevlar drivers, alloy frame woofers, specially braced cabinets, and state of the art components which ensure uniform sound character from top to bottom. ELAN’s use of Kevlar as a tweeter is believed to be an industry first and yields an unprecedented clean spacious sound. Also, drive components are sited close together to deliver rock solid imaging, seamless response and exceptionally controlled dispersion.
