In a sense, Blu-ray represents a “first” in consumer electronics history. Blu-ray Disc is a format that has it all — tremendous industry support and the backing of leading consumer electronics, music, gaming and personal computer brands including more than 180 companies — all choosing Blu-ray. Yet, a question that frequently comes up is “Why Blu-ray?”
Here are a few reasons why:
- A half million PlayStation 3 Blu-ray players will ship on November 17 with more than 20 high definition games available the first day.
- Philips’ BDP 9000 and Panasonic’s DMP-BD10 Blu-ray players are currently available in retail outlets. Soon, Blu-ray will have five players available from five different companies giving consumer’s the opportunity of “choice.”
- Blu-ray currently has 65 movie titles available and another 50 additional titles soon to come from Fox, MGM, Paramount, Lionsgate, Disney, Warner Bros. and Sony.
- Sony Pictures has shipped the first 50 GB Blu-ray title Click, with BlackHawk Down and Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby available to consumers in November and December. Buena Vista’s 50GB Blu-ray Disc titles Enemy of the State, Flightplan, and “Pearl Harbor” are also available in November and December to consumers.
