Auralex Acoustics Introduces Fire-Rated Wood Acoustical Treatments

DENVER, CO — Auralex Acoustics, Inc., the industry leader in innovative sound control solutions, announces that its pArtScience SpaceArray and SpaceCoupler have recently passed the requirements of a “Class B” fire-rating. Unique in the industry for wood acoustical treatments, the SpaceArray and SpaceCoupler continue to deliver superior performance at a popular price point. The newly rated products will be showcased at CEDIA 2007, booth #229.

Auralex’s SpaceArray and SpaceCoupler have successfully passed testing in accordance with ASTM E84, a standard test for surface burning characteristics of building materials. The test calculates both flame spread and smoke densities. Additionally, the SpaceArray has recently passed acoustical testing in accordance with ISO 17497-1, a standard test method for sound scattering and sound scattering coefficients. The SpaceCoupler is still undergoing final acoustical testing.

Designed by Russ Berger for Auralex Acoustics, the SpaceArray combines excellent hemispherical acoustical diffusion with a top quality wood finish. Based on a quasi-random series that provides superior performance without visual patterning, the SpaceArray is ideal for control rooms, auditoriums, performance venues, listening rooms, home theaters and worship spaces. Strong and lightweight, the beautiful 24″x24″ solid paulownia wood panels install easily and can be used in a variety of placement options.

The SpaceCoupler, also designed by Russ Berger for Auralex Acoustics, optimizes acoustical environments for a wide range of performance and recording styles. By providing an acoustical boundary interaction between loosely coupled spaces, the SpaceCoupler generates a low level reverberant tail to create a full, well-developed sound even in small footprint spaces. Strong and lightweight, the beautiful 24″x24″ solid wood panels install easily and can be used in a variety of placement options, including “T-bar” grids.

“We are proud to be able to offer Class B fire-rated wood acoustical treatment products for home theaters and home recording applications,” says Tracy Chandler, director of worldwide sales for Auralex. “While aesthetics are critical in the products we create, so too are safety and durability. Having successfully passed the fire-rating tests enables Auralex to maintain its position as the industry’s leading sound control solution provider.”

The SpaceArray and SpaceCoupler are just two of the offerings in the new pArtScience product line, a family of acoustical treatments designed for exceptional performance with a custom look, all at an affordable price.
