Atlantic Technology today introduced their new System 2400 series of home theater speakers, replacing the company’s popular System 2200 series. The series consists of a compact, high performance LR front speaker, a matching horizontal center channel, and a switchable dipole/bipole surround speaker. The speakers are designed for use as a dedicated home theater system when used in combination with any of the company’s newly redesigned SB line of powered subwoofers.

The most significant change to the System 2400 is the inclusion of Atlantic’s exclusive Low Resonance Tweeter (LRT™) in the 2400 LR and 2400 C front soundstage models. This tweeter, which handles a greater portion of the midrange frequency than conventional designs, improves midrange dispersion for better dialogue reproduction and soundstage coverage than conventional satellite speaker designs.

The 2400 LR front speakers each feature a pair of 4 1/2″ woofers vertically flanking a single LRT tweeter. This arrangement gives the speakers extremely linear horizontal dispersion for a broad “sweet spot,” while also limiting the vertical dispersion to prevent unwanted reflections from the floor or ceiling.

The 2400 C center channel features a pair of 4 1/2″ woofers arranged horizontally with a raised LRT tweeter between them to ensure highly intelligible dialogue reproduction for movies and multichannel music. The rear panel includes a pair of controls that can adapt sound quality for different speaker placements: A three-position High Frequency Energy switch adjusts for rooms that are acoustically too bright or too dull. A Boundary Compensation toggle can be used to adjust the lower-midrange output to compensate for the sound colorations caused by placing a speaker close to a TV screen, or building it into a cabinet or shelving unit. Finally, Atlantic’s tilting base design allows the speaker to be aimed directly at the listeners for optimum reproduction.

For surround channel reproduction, the 2400 SR surround speakers consist of two 4-1/2-inch woofers and two 1-inch soft dome tweeters in a dipole arrangement, which produces a diffuse and enveloping soundfield preferred for viewing movies. The speaker also includes a dipole/bipole select switch for situations where bipole speaker operation is preferred, including multichannel music reproduction.

The Atlantic Technology System 2400 speakers will feature attractive satin black finishes, with the 2400 LR and C also available in gloss black, and will be available in late May. Suggested retail price for the 2400 LR is $650 per pair; suggested retail price for the 2400 C is $400 each; suggested retail price for the 2400 SR is $700 per pair.
