Is This The New Sonos Move 2 Wireless Speaker?

According to The Verge, Sonos has a new portable wireless speaker coming late September 2023, but it won’t be cheap.

Sonos Move 2 Portable Wireless Speaker in Olive

Based on an “exclusive report” originally posted by The Verge, it looks like another leak regarding details of a pending Sonos wireless speaker has been revealed. This time, a successor to the Sonos Move tentatively known as the Sonos Move 2

Tip: There were similar advanced product leaks for both the Sonos Ray soundbar and ERA wireless speakers

Here is what we think we know so far:

Design: The Move 2 is expected to look similar to the original Move. However, inside the Move 2, Sonos is making improvements to audio performance, battery life, connectivity, charging base station, and more.

Stereo Sound: The original Move plays back audio in mono. However, if the leaked info is correct, the Move 2 will play music in stereo, providing a more natural sound. To support stereo playback, the Move 2 will incorporate two angled tweeters rather than just one as in the original model. We still think using two Move 2 would be preferable if one wants to experience true stereo sound.

Tip: The Move 2 will also continue to include a woofer for a full-range listening experience. Sonos Trueplay is expected to carry over from the original Move.

Bluetooth and Wi-Fi: Borrowing from the Sonos Roam, the Move 2 will be both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth-enabled.

Connectivity: In addition to wireless connectivity, the Move 2 is expected to include a line-in option via USB-C (via optional adapter). For added convenience, the USB-C port will be able to charge mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets.

Weather Resistant: Carrying over from the original Move, the Move 2 will be IP56 dust and water-resistant rated.

Extended Battery Life: So far the improvements and carryovers make the Move 2 a worthy successor to the original, but it doesn’t stop there. According to The Verge, the biggest improvement might just be extended battery life. Apparently, the Move 2’s replaceable battery will be able to play back music for up to 24 hours, which is almost double the performance of the original model.

Tip: The wireless charging base station is expected to include a detachable power adapter. The original Move requires a wired connection between the speaker and charger.

Onboard Controls: The Move 2 will include controls borrowed from the recently released Sonos Era 100 and 300 speakers.

Voice Control: It is expected that the Move 2 will work with Amazon Alexa and Sonos Voice Control, but Google Assistant may not be included. The voice assistant microphones can be disabled if desired.

Finish Options: It is expected that the Move 2 be available in black, white, or olive finishes.

Availability and Pricing

When it becomes available (expected late September 2023), the price for the Move 2  is expected to be $449 USD through Sonos.com.

Tip: Stay tuned as official details are verified by Sonos.
