As soundbar-based systems gain functionality, they’re also ballooning in price. Fully-equipped flagship Sony and Sonos soundbar-based surround systems including optional (but not really optional) subwoofer and rear speakers now ring up at $2,500 or more. The best soundbar-based surround sound systems from Samsung and LG also tip the monetary scales at close to $2,000. That’s why we’re excited about a new bundle deal on high-quality A/V separates (AVR and speakers) from Onkyo and Klipsch.
For a limited time, you can get Onkyo’s 9.2-channel TX-RZ30 receiver along with the Klipsch Cinema Reference 5.1.4-channel speaker system for just $1,198.99 with free shipping. The deal is available on Amazon through marketplace seller (and authorized Onkyo/Klipsch dealer) Adorama.

This is not some bargain basement system. The Onkyo TX-RZ30 receiver won an eCoustics Editors’ Choice award last year for its robust features and powerful audio/video performance, both in stereo and multi-channel modes. The unit features 100 watts/channel with nine independent amplifiers and two independent subwoofer outputs. This means you can put together a 7.2.2 or 5.2.4-channel system without needing any additional amps. It also includes DIRAC Live room correction built in, at no additional cost. This allows you to get optimized performance in your specific listening room. The unit can even be upgraded to take advantage of its dual independent subwoofer outputs via DIRAC Bass Control (requires separate license).
The RZ30 can decode both Dolby Atmos and DTS:X surround, is THX Select and IMAX Enhanced certified and supports WiFi, Bluetooth, Apple AirPlay 2 and Google Cast connectivity. It’s even “Works with Sonos” certified so it can act as an independent Sonos zone (requires additional purchase of a Sonos Port).
For maximum flexibility, the receiver offers six HDMI inputs and dual HDMI outputs, including HDMI/eARC (or HDMI/ARC) for simple one-cable connection to most TVs. It also includes analog and digital video and audio inputs for compatibility with older gear including a phono input for vintage (or modern) turntables. The unit even includes a full set of eleven (9.2) preamp outputs, so you can upgrade to more powerful dedicated amplifiers if you need to fill a larger room or want to add additional powered speaker zones in other rooms of your home.

Onkyo and Klipsch: a Match Made in Heaven?
Onkyo and Klipsch are actually sister companies, both under the “Premium Audio Companies” umbrella of Gentex. Gentex acquired the companies in 2024 and have shown their commitment to both brands with a flurry of new product introductions at this year’s CES show.

The speakers included in this bundle are the Klipsch Cinema Reference 5.1.4 -channel system. This complete package includes a dedicated center channel speaker, a powered subwoofer and four satellite speakers which include up-firing reflective drivers for immersive surround formats such as Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. In the right room, with reflective ceilings, this system can provide a dynamic and involving immersive soundstage for multi-channel music and movies, with sound coming from all directions and excellent, articulate dialog reproduction.
With the RZ30 receiver’s built-in DIRAC Live room correction, you can optimize the system sound for your specific room. You could even add a second subwoofer thanks to the dual independent subwoofer outputs on the receiver. But we’ve gotten great results with just the single powered sub included in the package.
The Bottom Line
We’re not sure how long the deal will last, but for those weighing their options between soundbar and separates-based systems, to get this kind of quality, flexibility and upgradeability for under $1,200 tips the scales squarely in favor of separates. Just add a roll of speaker wire, and maybe some speaker stands or wall-mount brackets and you’ll be ready to rock.
