Xplore Technologies Corp., a maker of award-winning rugged mobile computers, today announced the launch of a new unit specifically designed for use in clean rooms. “The Clean Room iX104C4 Tablet PC represents a significant opportunity for Xplore and is an application of our technology that we believe will deliver significant value to clean room users,” said Mark Holleran, President and Chief Operating Officer of Xplore Technologies. Xplore is a leader in fully rugged tablet PCs according to industry reports.

Clean rooms are environments that are specifically designed to avoid any sort of contamination and prevent any foreign particles from entering the manufacturing process. Such environments are familiar to consumers in their use in the chip manufacturing process, and are common also in the life sciences and pharmaceutical industries.

The Clean Room iX104C4 design implements best in class indoor/outdoor AllVue Xtreme display technology, a flexible user interface with Dual Mode functionality, redesigned antennae, integrated wireless modules, Windows 7 compliance and improved overall performance. The iX104C4’s key features include:

  • Specially designed chassis and sealing to prevent manufacturing contamination
  • Fully Rugged design while light enough to carry or keep mounting arms or carts in balance
  • 1.2 GHz Intel Core™ Duo processor to facilitate real time applications
  • 802.11AGN Wi-Fi for wireless connectivity to host systems
  • Full compatibility to Xplore peripherals such as docking stations and mounting equipment

“The Clean Room iX104C4 was developed based on the requirements of a major pharmaceutical company that provided valuable input in our development process. To date, approximately 500 tablets are being used in their clean rooms, enabling a more cost-efficient process, and Xplore is in a great position to target other pharmaceutical and food companies that work in sterile environments,” said Holleran.
