It was not that long ago that consumers considered a 65-inch TV to be the largest screen that they would consider for a living room or den. The COVID pandemic changed all of that and with consumers staying home to enjoy their favorite TV shows and movies, TV makers took the most logical step and began introducing screen sizes of between 85 and 100+ inches. A number of manufacturers introduced 98″ models (and larger) at CES 2024 and whilst the first generation of high-end models are not inexpensive — we expect to see prices fall rather dramatically over the next 12 months giving consumers a real alternative to projectors.
With that in mind, Walmart-owned Vizio has entered the large screen landscape with a new 86-inch TV. Although this screen size doesn’t match the 98-inch and larger screen sizes from some other TV makers such as Samsung, TCL, and Hisense, at 86-inches it is more than large enough for those looking for a larger screen, especially with its $999 price tag – that’s right, an 86-inch TV for about $1,000 is definitely appealing.
However, before you grab your wallet let’s find out what this TV actually offers.
Key Features
The Vizio V4K86C-0804 is an entry-level 4K UHD LCD TV with Direct Full Array LED Backlighting. More advanced display technologies such as Local Dimming and Quantum Dots are not included, but are offered in Vizio’s step-up Quantum and Quantum Pro models.
HDR Support: Dolby Vision, HDR10, HDR10+, and HLG provide improved contrast, color, and detail on encoded content. However, the effectiveness of HDR depends on how much light the TV can display – that information has not been provided by Vizio.
Gaming: Although the TV only provides a 60Hz refresh rate – it is compatible with 120Hz 1080p gaming from PC or Game Console sources. The TV does not provide 4K/120Hz gaming support.
Streaming: In addition to access to an extensive number of streaming services (Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, etc..), Vizio’s 86-inch TV also includes WatchFree+ which is Vizio’s free streaming option that includes over 260 free channels. Apple Airplay 2 and Chromecast are also built-in.
Bluetooth: This allows users to send audio wirelessly from the TV to a pair of Bluetooth headphones.
Voice Remote: Browse Apps, search for titles, and access some TV functions using voice commands. The TV is also compatible with the Vizio Mobile Control App for Android and iOS.
