TrekStor New 400GB Disk Drive Connects Directly To Office And Home Networks

TREKSTOR OF GERMANY ANNOUNCES 400-GB DISK DRIVE THAT CONNECTS DIRECTLY TO OFFICE AND HOME NETWORKS

Provides Centralized, Secure Low Cost Storage of Data For All Network Users

EAST ROCKAWAY, New York — August 9, 2006 — Offering a convenient, cost-effective method for multiple users to store, retrieve and share data in an office or home network, TrekStor GmbH, Germany’s largest manufacturer of PC storage products, has introduced a stand-alone hard drive that connects directly to an Ethernet network and stores up to 400 gigabytes of data.
The new DataStation maxi z.ul Network Storage Drive stores files in a central and secure location, accessible to all network users, without the expense or trouble of a dedicated file server. Many DataStation maxi z.ul drives can be used in one network, and as many as eight drives may be connected together to provide a single data repository of up to two terabytes (2,000 GB). Now available from authorized TrekStor resellers, the maxi z.ul is sold in sizes ranging from 80GB to 400GB. The manufacturer’s suggest retail price for 400GB model is $419.00.

“The DataStation maxi z.ul is the perfect solution where networked users need to access and share digital content, be it in an office or home environment,” said Hana Arad, president of Data Station Inc., the U.S. marketing arm for TrekStor GmbH.

The DataStation maxi z.ul plugs directly into a network switch via standard CAT5 cable, or if preferred can alternatively be connected to a sole PC via a USB connection. Once installed on a network, the drive appears as a new drive letter in the user interface. The maxi z.ul works with Windows, Mac or Linux operating systems. A maximum of 64 users can access the maxi z.ul concurrently; with direct saving to the network drive ensuring that data files are always up to date.

The NDAS technology used in the maxi z.ul optimally exploits the available network bandwidth and, compared to conventional network storage systems, provides for much faster data transmission.

Using two or more maxi z.ul within a single network can increase data throughput further. At the press of a button the drives can be merged into a large data storage unit (RAID 0). The expanded system can continue to be accessed by all Windows users.

The DataStation maxi z.ul also supports RAID 1, providing optimal fault tolerance. In this operating mode, data are automatically mirrored to the network’s second DataStation maxi z.ul in real time.

“Incorporating original German engineering and technology, the maxi z.ul offers users a unique design, superb quality and performance, and outstanding value. It is a business-grade product that’s affordable for home users,” said Shimon Szmigiel, TrekStor CEO.

The new network drive is constructed in black aluminum casing, with elegant chrome seams. It comes with a multifunction mount, allowing the maxi z.ul to be placed either on top of the desk, or attached to the underside of the table, thereby saving space.

Price and availability
The DataStation maxi z.ul Network Storage Drive will be available at Amazon.com, J&R Music and Computer World, RCS Experience and The StorStore, Inc., MSRP starting at $201.15 for 80 GB to $419.00 for the top of line 400GB hard drive. Each drive comes with a network cable, USB cable, power supply and multifunctional mount, a software CD with NDAS software, Windows 98 drivers (for USB mode), quick start instructions and manual.
