Theory Audio Design ic5 In-Ceiling Speaker Lands at CEDIA 2025: Compact Design, Massive Attitude

Theory Audio Design’s ic5 in-ceiling loudspeaker delivers high-output, versatile sound for home theater, multi-room, outdoor and marine installations.

Theory Audio Design has unveiled the ic5, a compact 5-inch high-output in-ceiling loudspeaker that brings the performance pedigree of its larger ic6 sibling to a smaller footprint. Designed for residential, commercial, and even marine applications, the ic5 combines a discreet form factor with serious engineering—delivering up to 108dB of output from its 5-inch carbon fiber woofer and advanced polymer compression driver.

With a sealed design, and optional all-weather grille, the ic5 is built to handle everything from surround sound to distributed audio with precision and power.

For large-scale distributed installs, the ic5 includes a switch-selectable 70V/100V transformer that can be driven directly by Theory’s DLC Series Loudspeaker Controllers.

“Theory customers have been waiting in anticipation for the ic5, but Theory’s brand promise is to not bring any product to market unless we know we can deliver the best performance available in any given product category,” said Marc Bertrand, CSO for Theory Audio Design. “The ic5 is finally here and I can say with confidence we have kept our promise. I can’t wait for Theory customers to hear its performance capabilities.”

ic5 In-Ceiling Loudspeaker: Compact Performance, Big Flexibility

Versatile Applications: Residential, commercial, or even marine, the ic5 adapts. Its sealed design and optional all-weather grille let you put it almost anywhere without sacrificing performance.

Smaller but Mighty: The ic5 is the ic6’s little brother. You get the same dynamic, full-range sound—losing only a few dB of output—so you don’t have to carve a massive hole in your ceiling to get serious audio performance.

Easy Pre-Construction Planning: Theory’s in-ceiling pre-construction brackets make reserving space in new builds foolproof. Each bracket is labeled with the model number, so drywall crews can’t mix them up. No guesswork, no headaches.

Drop Ceiling? Handled: A 24” tile bridge kit lets you install the ic5 cleanly in drop ceilings. It’s secure, neat, and won’t rattle or wobble.

Wide Dispersion: With over 120° coverage at 10kHz, the ic5 fills the room. Even the dining room’s worst seats get clear, detailed sound.

Smooth Off-Axis Performance: Even at 90° off-axis—right at the ceiling—the ic5 maintains smooth response with gradual, controlled high-frequency roll-off. So yes, even if you’re painting the ceiling, you’re still getting good sound.

We’ve always been impressed with Theory’s offerings— their soundbars have set the standard against which others are measured, and the ic6 remains one of the best in-ceiling speakers in the custom install category, with pendant options that work equally well in commercial or residential spaces. The ic5 looks to extend that same level of precision and reliability to a smaller footprint, making it a compelling option for a range of installations.

The one thing to remember: to get the full benefit, you’ll need a Theory controller plus a preamp or surround processor to drive it. Accurate, capable, and adaptable—the ic5 makes a strong case for itself in any in-ceiling application.

Price & Availability

The ic5 will begin shipping worldwide later this month (September 2025). Attendees at CEDIA Expo 2025 can experience the ic5 firsthand with memorable demonstrations in HPA 202. Visitors are also invited to stop by Theory Booth 2933 to see the ic5 up close.
