Runcos New Video Xtreme Packages Redefine the Future of Digital High Definition

UNION CITY, CALIFORNIA — September 10, 2004 — Runco International, the world leader in high-end home theater video display technology, is upgrading selected projection packages with the addition of the new, all-digital DHD Video Controller. The Video Xtreme Series VX-1000d, VX-4000d, and VX-5000d Projection Packages join the VX-2c in combining Runco’s industry-leading image processor and controller with Runco’s benchmark projection technology. With the addition of the DHD Digital Video Controller, the new projection packages are a demonstration of Runco’s commitment to setting the performance standards for the future of digital home cinema.

“The DHD Digital Video Controller was designed specifically to enhance the exceptional video reproduction capabilities of our projectors,” said Bob Hana, president of Runco. “As our ability to produce more sophisticated video technology advances, we’ve moved toward creating a purely digital imaging process. The DHD Digital Video Controller enhances all source material with digital precision for unsurpassed clarity when presented on any screen size or aspect ratio. It is the perfect complement to our outstanding Video Xtreme Series, and represents the current state of the art of video processing.”

The VX-1000d, VX-4000d, and VX-5000d follow the VX-2c, which was the first Runco projector to be packaged with the DHD Digital Video Controller, as well as feature Runco’s exclusive LiveLink digital signal preservation technology. LiveLink allows pure digital signals to be transmitted via DVI cable over long runs–even over 100 feet–without any degradation in picture quality or bandwidth. The DHD Digital Video Controller provides a pure digital signal path from input to output, making the VX-1000d, VX-4000d, and VX-5000d Projection Systems ready to take advantage of LiveLink’s benefits. By using DVI cables, Runco projectors are HDTV-ready and guarantee digital-to-digital compatibility with future video sources.

Runco has incorporated into the DHD Digital Video Controller’s design the latest ViVix digital video processing technology—-ViVix II. This technology enhances digital and analog signals while outputting a pure digital signal in addition to analog. It optimizes signal reproduction for Anamorphic, Letterbox, and 4:3 aspect ratios, and its VirtualWide feature converts 4:3 images for maximum performance on 16:9 screens without losing any image integrity. The DHD Digital Controller also features Orthogonal Line Correction to adjust for unwanted time-elapsed field artifacts as well as 3:2 and 2:2 pull-down for maximum quality playback from film-originated programming.

The DHD Digital Video Controller also offers broad connectivity with eight discretely switching inputs to accept both digital and analog sources, and an RS-232 interface for control via home automation systems. Its software is field-upgradeable so installers can download updates from Runco on job sites, ensuring the processor’s performance matches the newest sources and displays. It also outputs three 12V DC trigger signals to activate third party components like motorized screen lifts and drapes.

The DHD Digital Video Controller’s slim design and comprehensive processing power brings new simplicity to the installation of each projector package in which it’s included. Its compact chassis measures just 3-3/4 inches high and weighs 13 pounds, and is easily rack-mountable using supplied mounting brackets. The unit also requires only a single cable to connect with each projector, reducing clutter and set-up time on each job.

The introduction of the latest Video Xtreme Projection Packages reinforces Runco’s loyalty and dedication to its dealers, who are essential to upholding the company’s tradition of world-class performance quality and customer service. The new packages represent Runco’s latest effort to provide its dealers with the home theater technology that provides end-users with an extraordinary home cinema experience.

The Video Xtreme Series Projection Packages retail for:

VX-1000d – $14,995
VX-4000d – $19,995
VX-5000d – $26,995
VX-2c – $39,995
