R_Volution’s Player One, NAS and R_Video Media Center Might Be An Alternative to Zappiti With Some Caveats

The R_Volution ecosystem includes a movie server, network attached storage and 4K media player with a graphical user interface.

In early October 2023, Zappiti abruptly exited the market leaving its worldwide consumer base in a state of confusion. Users of its media players were left holding the bag. It also created an opportunity for someone. Fast forward to the beginning of this week and suddenly a new brand, R_volution, has announced two possible alternatives; The Player One, NAS, and R_Video Media Center

Tip: R_volution is a new brand specializing in consumer electronic devices. In the US, R_volution will be distributed by Let’s Get Physical Distribution Inc. In Europe, R_Volution products are distributed by HD LAND. What is ironic is that Let’s Get Physical is also handling any remaining warranty service for Zappiti products.

R_Volution NAS

R_Volution NAS

Although Player One does provide up to 16TB of storage (optional purchase), adding the R_Volution NAS (Network Attached Storage) greatly expands both storage and content access.

Working in conjunction with PlayerOne, the NAS provides all of the source content for the player which is delivered over a network connection.

The NAS incorporates a built-in optical disc drive compatible with 4K UHD Blu-ray/Blu-ray, DVD, and CDs. The disc content can be ripped to one of 8 installed 3.5 SATA drives (the number of drives installed is up to user discretion).

Whilst all of this looks good on paper, many of us remember the legal situation Kaleidescape faced years ago when its system let consumers rip movies to their movie servers, incurring the wrath of the movie studios.

R_Video Media Center

R_video provides content management for the entire system.

R_Video incorporates a visually pleasing, fast user interface for users to explore movies and TV shows and can analyze video files located on a local disk connected to your Player One or on a NAS via the local network.

Using that as a starting point, R_video collects the cover art, background, and various information such as cast, director, release date, and rating.

Once that take is complete, just sit down in your home theater with your friends or family and easily choose your movie or TV show. Browse a genre. Sort movies by rating, duration, or release date. Read a summary. Play the trailer. Then press PLAY to enjoy your movie. After the end credits, wait for the next episode of your TV show to automatically start.
